Butler House, Luxury Guesthouse - formally the Dower House of Kilkenny Castle built in 1770. This historical house is situated in the centre of Kilkenny City, adjacent to Kilkenny Castle. An integral part of the Kilkenny Castle Estate, Butler House was home to the Earls of Ormonde, who also built the castle, stables and coach houses at the rear. Sweeping staircases, magnificent plastered ceilings and marble fireplaces are all features of this 18th century house. The house is a combination of contemporary furnishings and period elegance. Butler House boasts seventeen special rooms and suites, all with their own individual character. Designed to provide maximum comfort, each has a modern bathroom, and is decorated with soft coordinated fabrics and furnishings. The balance of old and new is prevalent throughout the rooms – contemporary furnishings are combined with the magnificent original features, which afford guests an impressive sense of comfort and space.

Historic house & hotel

Reviewed By vidya s

It's a historic house turned hotel. Lovely place with gorgeous adjoining gardens. Charming and romantic. Rooms were well appointed and mine had a view across the gardens. Centrally located at a stones throw from the Castle which can be reached just walking out of the back garden. Has its own car park from the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was fresh and served to order. Definitely would stay again if am in Kilkenny.

Grange Manor Kilkenny

Bed and Breakfast in an 18th century manor house set in the beautiful county of Kilkenny,(winner of National tourism town 2013) an hour and a half from Dublin and the same from Cork. Ideal location to explore Ireland's treasures. All the rooms in our home are unique and special. Gracious living in such quiet surroundings gives a unique view of Ireland that echos back in time. Modern plumbing, heating and facilities make it perfect.

Wonderful!

The first thing we noticed was the spectacular location - the home is set among 26 acres of fields. We were welcomed by Mary, who does a fantastic job at making you feel at home. After a quick walk around to stretch our legs, we settled into the Theatre Room with its painted ceiling, incredible bathroom, and view onto the fields. Ate dinner in the village that night at Mary's Cafe (a different Mary) - very traditional Irish food, with pints of Guinness from the pub up the street! Breakfast was made to order, don't miss out on the delicious brown bread (with plenty of butter!) Spent the day in Kilkenny - first stop was the Medieval Mile Museum, which really helped to understand why the city has been so important for centuries. After a short nap back at Grange Manor, Frank drove us back into Kilkenny for a great dinner at Campagne. We didn't want to risk driving on unfamiliar roads after splitting a bottle of wine at dinner - definitely a good idea. The next morning, another terrific breakfast, and Mary even packed a few extra scones for us to snack on for our drive back to Dublin. The gorgeous home, in a beautiful setting, coupled with Mary and Frank's warmth as hosts, made this a memorable stay!

Warm welcome, gracious hosts, wonderful breakfast, quiet, comfortable, convenient location and parking. Yes, perfect! We were on the last leg of our trip and had a bad experience at a local hotel. We found Rosquil House and had an overwhelming sense of relief. We felt safe, at home and comfortable. We were able to easily access Kilkenny. Phil and Rhoda are amazing hosts, informative and conversational. We would absolutely recommend to family and friends and will visit again someday!

Good staff but rooms a little dated

I stayed 2 nights and was overall quite pleased. Nice bar and dining area and if the weather is good great to sit outside for a coffee. The rooms could do with a makeover but the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Perfect Place for Seeing Southeastern Ireland

Reviewed By morkula

This place was hard to find: developers had created a second address for a new housing estate, and the poor owner of the new house address was well used to people coming to his house expecting a B&B, ha-ha! However, it was worth finding. The room we had was very comfortable and the owner gave us the ultimate tip on a great restaurant: Petronella. We jumped off from this B&B to visit Waterford, Blarney Castle, and Tipperary (we had come "a long way"). It was convenient to all our destinations, and gave us a Full Irish Breakfast to boot.
