Banská Štiavnica (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈbanskaː ˈʃciawɲitsa] ( listen); German: Schemnitz; Hungarian: Selmecbánya (Selmec), pronounced [ˈʃɛlmɛd͡zbaːɲɒ]) is a town in central Slovakia, in the middle of an immense caldera created by the collapse of an ancient volcano.
