The Coromandel peninsular is absolutely beautiful and the little town of Coromandel is really quaint. The Pepper Tree restaurant was a stand out with fabulous food - the seafood is excellent - the staff are really friendly and sitting outside under the huge pepper tree is very relaxing and creates a lovely ambience. Highly recommend.

Cafe, Restaurant & Bar - Open front courtyard, and a garden bar in the back courtyard, with plenty of space for the kids
Birthday brekkie treat we stopped in at success cafe.
Under new management finally a cafe that opens nefore 8am.
Friendly and happy staff, clean and airy our coffee was super tasty.
The medium brekkie was uber tasty and there was no issue with little miss fussy swapping out a few items.
Highly recommend.
Thanks for starting our day the perfect way :)

A place where Mother Nature tickles your taste buds! Sample great home-style cooking, using fresh ingredients from the Coromandel; like Hauraki Flounder, Green Lipped Mussels and seasonal treats. Served in a tranquil setting surrounded by New Zealand flora. The perfect place to enjoy a 'Dam’ good coffees and home-baked delights.
We have been traveling in New Zealand for one month and all agreed this was by far the best meal we have had so far. What a surprise to have a gourmet meal at a reasonable cost at a garden. I would love to eat their several more times!

We dined at Umu twice during our short stay in Coromandel because it was so good.
The food is very freshly prepared, with local ingredients - the menu is diet aware, and the staff were helpful in that respect too.
If you love mussels you’ll love the mussels platter, which has them prepared as a chowder, gratin, pickled, pate, and more! The plate included the biggest mussels I’ve ever eaten! I think it’s meant to be shared... I ate it myself and happily rolled home!
They also have a display case of fresh food that is ready to eat or take home. We took some delicious food home for a snack in the evening too!
Lovely service and charming atmosphere!

Come and enjoy some delicious, fresh greenlipped mussels served up in a beautiful outdoor country setting and wash it down with our very own craft beer brewed on site.
The perfect casual relaxed lunch spot with delicious mussel pots. Our group tried the Thai and White wine pots and would highly
recommend. It is also a great spot for kids, kid friendly food options and plenty of space to run around. The service was prompt and with a smile. Great beer too! Thanks for a very enjoyable lunch!

Driving Creek Cafe is one of the best kept secrets of Coromandel Town - a warm and homely vegetarian cafe and good quality second hand book shop with a relaxing ambiance 3kms north of the township and only 100 metres from the Driving Creek Railway. We can cater to most dietary needs and have a variety of vegan specific menu items - including baking most days. Please be aware, parking up the driveway is limited and it isn't easy to turn around so leaving your car at the bottom is advised.
We popped in for a quick drink before going on the railroad. There is very limited parking up the narrow one-way drive. Best park down the bottom. The only cold drinks available are smoothies, juice combos - no refrigerated drinks/sodas. This was fine for our family but others might find the options and $9 price tag a little steep for kids. The cafe is also a 2nd hand bookshop which is a lovely distraction!

From the very old pictures inside the Star and Garter has been a key establishment in Coromandel Town for many years. I large selection of beers and a simple menu. The portions are on the large size and will suit the hungry visitor. Pool and darts are available. A nice evening out with friends.

What an excellent choice for dinner. Yes it's a tad pricey, but I'd rather pay a little more for quality, than pay less and have a meal you can't eat. We had a mix of a kiddies box, burger and fish and chips. What I did like was that you can order a piece of fish and get salad to go with it if you don't want the chips. Batter was crunchy and delicimo. The staff were so friendly and obliging it almost made it an experience. I'd certainly go again, and recommend for anyone visiting Coromandel town.

Had dinner in the pub with a few friends.
Service by the waitress was absolutely disgusting and rude.
Why she works there I have no idea.
Had the chicken salad and was revolting as had what tasted like curry powder in the chicken.
Will never be back and do not recommend to anyone!

When you’re in Coromandel enjoying the Beaches and being amidst the ocean, try fresh food from the sea is a must and this place is amazing for that. There are limited restaurants in Coromandel town itself and this place is heaven if you’re looking for fresh oysters.
They are pretty cheap as well as it comes for about $18 for a dozen and you can enjoy it at their little outdoor area while watching the ocean. We have oysters along with some fish and chips and if you love it spicy, they always have heaps of Tabasco sauce which makes it even ultra amazing. Just five minutes drive away from the city centre. Definitely a must while in Coromandel.
