Things to do in Darien
Driving down Tokeneke Road I spotted Jenniferâs Kitchen and decided to explore. Turned out to be a small local deli with a somewhat limited menu⦠a small assortment of breakfast offerings, soups, sandwiches, salads, four dinner entrees⦠but also a selection of 8 daily specials⦠AND⦠âCreate Your Own Dinner⦠Ask for whatever your heart desiresâ. The breakfast menu and the lunch menu are both served all day. (The menu is fully described on the website.)The interior is small, cramped, a tad cluttered. Dine-in seating is limited to two tall tables and eight high stools so a lot of the business is take-out. I ate on site and opted for one of the daily specials⦠Chicken Pot Pie $9.50 This version of chicken pot pie was served with the ingredients in a large soup bowl with topped with two flaky creations. Hot, very tasty, lots of chicken; perfect for a cold December day. The cook and server were both friendly. Coffee was decent. While I ate a number of other customers stopped in to pick up take-out orders that they had phoned in, so the place is obviously popular with the local community. Additional observationsâ¦- wheel chair accessible- no customer WiFi- itâs a mini-deli, mostly for take-out⦠so not licensed for alcohol- credit cards acceptedBottom line⦠I am glad that I stopped in when passing by, and would stop in again⦠but would not make a major detour to return.

Expect the unexpected from Michael Young, the owner of Valencia Luncheria as has conquered many different styles of food without compromise. Youngâs interest in cooking developed at an early age as every Sunday he would watch and study his father, a chef in a French restaurant, cook a meal for his family. My friend and I went around 12:30 pm and were surprised to see how small it looked, but once inside, it looked roomy and fun! Despite a crowd, we were seated at a table right away. The atmosphere of the place was exciting and lively. There was catchy music playing in the background as waiters and waitresses milled around trying to serve as many tables as possible. The food is inspired Latin American. The menu was extensive, making it hard to choose which item we wanted. As an appetizer we started off with a helping of chips and guacamole. The chips were good, and despite being mushy the guacamole was solid. In addition, we also got one beef arepa and empanadas which were delicious. I suggest you share a plate with someone because the portion sizes are hefty and filling. The prices are very reasonable offering great value for the food. I am recommending Valenicia as a great place to go if hungry and you are looking to spare your wallet some major damage.
Hands down the best deli food anywhere! Their BLT is amazing! My favorite is the California turkey rollup -- turkey, bacon, cheese, chutney, and more! Enough food to last for two meals. Lines can go out the door at lunchtime, but the friendly guys behind the counter keep it moving right along. Open 7 days, starting early in time to grab a hot sandwich before getting on the train.

We are proud to be known as one of the oldest continuously running markets in the state of Connecticut. In the mid 18th century, when packet ships plied their trade along the Eastern seaboard from New York to Boston, we served as an offloading port for fr
I went with my husband and daughter for a quick breakfast on the Friday of a holiday weekend. Everything about this place screams history, community, and great food. It's a market that also serves food. It was hard to decide what to eat because everything looked and smelled delicious. My 9-year-old gobbled up a huge slice of quiche (about 1/4 of the pie). I had an egg sandwich and my husband a bagel. Coffee and tea were good too. Prices are very good, too. We ate on the patio, which has a great view. The market had a nice selection of items. I will definitely stop by again next time I'm in Connecticut!Thank you, Lorraine! We are glad that we were a highlight of your trip to coastal Connecticut! We strive to have a selection that caters to all, and are very pleased that you had a positive experience with your family at the Market! Your feedback is greatly appreciated and we hope you stop by again soon!

Can't believe I've lived for years just around the corner from Mama's, but now I'm a breakfast regular. Great food, friendly and efficient service and good prices for an expensive town.

One of the best places in Darien. Have the catalina sandwich. Its the craziest combination of foods. This delicious oath type bread that has grilled chicken, brie cheese ,apples and bacon. On the side there is a dipping sauce that I think is sour cream mixed with honey but I can't say so for sure. All the specials are good. Service is super friendly and the prices are right!
