We focus on authentic Sichuan cuisine tastes Ginkgo Sichuan Cuisine is a modern Chinese restaurant in Fairfield Connecticut that aims to provides customers with a modern yet authentic Sichuan cuisine experience.
Lately it seems when ever a new oriental restaurant opens it is a "fusion restaurant" which means it serves Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and maybe other's food. All are modified to American tastes served in a "modern" environment - high stools and bare tables a necessity.Ginkgo Sichuan is none of those and a delight because of it. They are a Chinese restaurant with primary emphasis on Sichuan dishes but a few gems from the other three food traditions of China. The restaurant is plain and has tastefully sparse decor. A few vases, a couple pictures. a curio cabinet and plain functional tables and chairs. The food is the star and it shines. The customers are overwhelmingly Chinese and it feels a lot like being in Beijing. Most items are served family style but choosing a couple dishes work well for two.The menu is huge and covers meat, seafood, vegetable noodle and and rice. You can find what you want as long as you want it prepared Sichuan style. My wife and I, having recently returned from Singapore, wanted Peking duck but could not find it anywhere in Fairfield County. They offered both a whole and half duck. As is the custom it came with a second course of stir fried duck and vegetables and a third course of duck bone soup with tofu. I was in Asia again! The duck was expertly carved table side and came with ultra thin wrappers or pancakes, Hoisen sauce, cucumbers and scallions. The skin was extra crispy and the whole eating experience wonderful. You must order the duck at least two hours ahead which is great. Most places in other cities require a full day. There are coupons out there for 10% off.The only negative is the service. You have heard of a Chinese fire drill? That would be an improvement. people came disappeared, other came, no one showed for minutes. We did not even know if they had our order for about 20 minutes and paying was about as hard. They are fairly new at his location and I am hoping this only dark item on a bright new restaurant will be resolved.

When we moved up from New York we were not happy with the Cheese food (except Little Kitchen ....for dining) . Shanghai Gourmet was found by accident and it is fantastic and get my drift .;..this is 'soul food' for my group of people. The shanghai noodle soup is superb. The Chicken with cashews, Chicken with black bean sauce is unreal, The egg roles are nit the factory made that you have in so many Chinese. Excellent dumplings and the soups ..5*.Everything we have tried here is wonderful. If you eat there...no atmosphere and people constantly getting their orders. Order takeout and you will be very surprised.

Well, they seem to have fixed their reservation issue, because we were seated immediately. The menu is vast, eclectic and expansive (not expensive, expansive). If you're a Panda Express kind of person, this isn't the place for you. This is real, authentic Asian food with a flair. Not overly pricey and certainly not pretentious, but so, so good!!! Start with Chengdu Dumplings, Dan Dan Noodles and some scallion pancakes. Then move on to Salt and pepper shrimp and Mongolian Beef, plus other delights, including some regular classics. Whatever you do, SHARE...it's much more fun that way. And try something new every time you go, which will be often once you've been there once. Service is friendly but slow, but once you order, the food comes quickly. Enjoy this place and savor it (the bartender is a great guy too). Check it out.

Having lived in Asia for many years, Chinese cuisine is a long-standing favorite. My standards may well be higher than most, accustomed to great Chinese food in so many countries in Asia, Canada, US, etc. I used to patronize Tiger Bowl often, although it was mediocre then, but had not dined here in several years. The food has seriously declined in quality. Refried leftover egg roll burned on the bottom. The wontons in the wonton soup are the cheapest quality - I've had better at little "hole-in-the-wall" cheap-Chinese outlets. The rice is not fine quality, and the pork fried rice had one little snippet of pork in it. Plenty of cashews sprinkled over the cashew-nut chicken, but it was mostly celery. My companion's meal was likewise unsatisfactory, four small shrimp buried in a pile of celery & bok choy. The sauces are limited & flavorless. Extremely disappointing. The service used to be pleasant, but now rude in the extreme. I won't return, and neither will my friend, who likewise patronized this place regularly. Despite the scarcity of Chinese restaurants now, this is a place to avoid.

I had 2 less than great lunches at Kiraku about 18 mos ago and was reluctant to revisit but my wife encouraged me to try again for dinner. BIG improvement. The Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box was delicious as was my wife's Lo Mein. Cordial, prompt service in a friendly environment.

We took the kids and grandkids for Christmas Eve dinner. We had great service, wonderful appetizers and plenty of drinks for the adults. The little kids really enjoyed the variety. The adults had sushi, and different entrées.Everything was good.
