First, this isn't a sit-down and order from the menu Indian restaurant, it's more counter-service and choose x from y choices. That said, Tikkaway scored highly for what it is.Really, everything was great. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. The gentleman serving me offered up samples without prompting and made several good suggestions.I had a rice bowl with stuff. Lots of stuff. Kidney beans, potatoes, various veggies, some cabbage, and, oh yes, the hot peppers and the vindaloo sauce. Yummy!Inside everything was clean and light, and with a really nice atmosphere.The environment would likely be a little happier if they didn't serve the eat-in meals in styrofoam containers and for that, we docked a point leaving the score as eleven out of ten (11/10) - highly recommended.

Baingan had been recommended to my wife .. she was talking with associates and told them that we were disappointed with our regular go to Indian restaurant in New Haven. She was told to go to Baingan, the food is fresh, the servers friendly and the view atop the Housatonic River was great. My wife's friend underplayed the experience. The food was very tasty, very fresh and the servers were attentive and not pushy or hovering. I highly recommend this place .. great choices of meat and vegetarian dishes (and one of the servers was from our old stand-by restaurant and he made us feel at home!). There appears to be a private room for parties and a nice outside deck overlooking the river.

The folks here were all warm and friendly, the decor is basic but attractive, and the food is good, if slightly overpriced. Conveniently located for folks going to the Bow Tie Cinema, the Yale Art Gallery, or any of the myriad attractions at Yale. I recommend.

They still serve high quality yummy food among few Indian restaurants in the area. It is little on expensive side compare to others but with reasons. Well decorated comfortable seating, professional service with even manager making sure that each table gets full attention.
