Scarpelliâs has been a Torrington fixture for decades. One of their most beloved features has always been the fresh, hand made crinkle cut french fries. Theyâre reminiscent of the marvelous fries at the original Nathans Restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Itâs important to note that this was not my first visit to Scarpelliâs. It was more like my tenth, and it was definitely my last, as youâll soon understand. I sat at the counter and ordered one of the club sandwiches, as Iâd done many times before. Also, as Iâd done many times before, I requested that the accompanying french fries be made extra crispy. When my meal arrived the flaccid, undercooked fries were served sitting in a pool of oil. To anybody who has ever worked at a restaurant (and I have for many years) it was obvious that the fries were cooked at too low of a temperature. Thatâs why they were so greasy. When I requested the french fries to be replaced (they really were grease-soaked) a gentleman whom I believe to be the owner came out to me and dealt me a line of nonsense about not being able to get the right potatoes, and having trouble with food distributors, and telling me that he could cook these potatoes for hours and they wouldnât brown. Just a load of nonsense. When I shared with him that all that he had to do was to order Russets and to pre-fry them at 330 degrees F, then to re-fry them at 360 degrees F to get amazing results he just walked away after telling me that Russets were not available in the area. I guess he wasnât interested in listening to someone upon whom his nonsense about hand made crinkle cut french fries (oh, another FYI â apparently their crinkle cutter is broken and they donât want to pay to replace it, so they seem to be cutting the fries by hand, and poorly, at that) wasnât going to fly. I also guess that he wasnât interested in my sharing with him where he could get all of the fresh Russet potatoes that he might want. Bottom line: I left the fries untouched in their pool of grease. I also left 1/4 of my sandwich (they cut the club sandwiches into quarters) because it had become grease soaked due to the presence of the miserably prepared fries. At least the cole slaw was good!Sorry, I wonât be going back. I just hate getting a side order of nonsense with my meal!

We keep it simple at Berkshire and it never disappoints- sausage pizza with roasted peppers and their fabulous and huge family salad. Few beers, few beers and call it wrap. The pizza is outstanding- I grew up in Bristol - which has fantastic pizza, yet Berkshire beats them all.Love the never changing familiar environment. Special shout out for Amber - literally the friendliest best server I have ever seen. Never without a smile! What a pleasure- tip her well.

The breakfasts at Tony's are delicious, plentiful with good variety and smiling service. The place is decorated with posters and letters from old movie stars and it's fun to look at the walls while you are waiting for your plate. The atmosphere is a wonderful throwback and homage to a time gone by but the food is quite fresh and marvelous.

Great breakfast. The staff is very friendly and attentive to all your needs. I had the italian omelet. Very good. My family had eggs, sausage and toast. Coffee was hot and very good quality. Nice place for breakfast. Great atmosphere. Lots of parking in rear. Highly recommended

Sad to say that this season, Summer 2017, the formula for the batter has changed to something that it not crisp, or crunchy. It serves to steam the fresh fish within which is good, but it does not enhance the fish n'chips experience. Possibly my meal was under fried as the batter was very pale in color.Locally the Big Y supermarket can offer a better experience though without the outdoor dining. Here their sign says best seafood you will ever taste which is an exaggeration at present.

The place looks rundown and unkept, but the deli selections are good. Nice, big sandwiches, salads, and hot plates to go. I love their Italian combo and chicken florentine. It's a market, so other necessities can be picked up as well. Great single serving desserts as well.

So my husband and I come here fairly frequently. It's close to our home and they have healthy options. I have never been disappointed with any meal I've ever gotten until tonight. We both ordered the special Blackened Fish Taco, with jasmine rice. For me it was inedible. It was way too spicy hot and extremely salty. I couldn't eat the rice either, both dishes tasted like they pour the salt on. My husband wound up eating mine because he loves spice, and I guess the salt didn't bother him. It won't keep us from coming back, but I was very disappointed, wound up making myself a turkey sandwich for dinner. Bummer. My very good rating represents every other time we've eaten there.

Came on a recommendation, not disappointed. Nice neighborhood bar and grill, surprised how nice it was inside. Food was excellent, had the chicken curry and buffalo chicken salad special. Service was good, margaritas was good enough for a second. Check it out!!

Hidden on the upper level of an 1896 Torrington Historic Landmark, with the ambiance of a 1920's elegant Speakeasy, complete with a dance floor, bar and seating for 30.. Serving dinner every evening except Tuesday and Wednesday beginning at 6:00 pm. Reser
Absolutely THE BEST dining experience!!!! Unique space, delectable food, friendly servers, amazing cocktails....everything about the Ritz is a WOW! Brought out-of-town friends here for brunch during a girls' weekend. They were blown away. From the minute you enter the restored Art Deco building, you are transported to the 1920's. The hundreds of hanging light fixtures, period clothing, jewelry and accessories are a feast for the senses. Cafe style dining is available on the first floor (outside in the warmer weather). We dined in the second floor lounge. Love the vintage atmosphere. There is no bad table. The menu is surprisingly extensive for an intimate dining room. Every brunch option sounded delicious. We ordered the bacon/egg/ cheese waffle, the "special" seafood omelet, the avocado/bacon toast and the eggs benedict. Perfection! Fresh, scrumptious and exquisitely prepared. Very generous portions. The accompanying cocktails were divine. You have to order a bloody Mary. Never seen anything like it. A work of art. The mimosas came in a variety of flavors. We ordered the pineapple and cranberry. And desserts? OMG! The fudge brownie sundae and cannoli were decadent. Totally impressed with every aspect of the Ritz. Great for a romantic dinner, girls night out, intimate party or special celebration. There is no other place like this anywhere. Make a reservation and come on down!
