Staying at the lodge for three nights as part of our birding trip we were happy to have dined at Neal's Café. Breakfast was fresh and I especially loved the biscuits with gravy. The coffee was strong and smooth. Dinner menu was extensive and included so many southern Classics like chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. I had the fried shrimp two nights it was so yummy. The shrimp were juicy and fresh tasting; I removed the breading the shrimp alone were so delicious, My husband enjoyed the chicken fried steak. The amiable Desire was our server she was efficient and explained all the menu items to us.
Be sure to check with the restaurant for hours of operation and check the specials board. Dining outside with the Texas Hills and spring breeze made our dining extra special. The Sunday we stayed at the lodge, the restaurant was closing early, so we had take out and reheated the food in our cabin oven.

Reminded me of visiting the concession stand at the drive-in movie. It was a one-man operation out of an Airstream trailer. Best hamburger and fries I've had anywhere. The bun was unusual -- kind of sweet, like brioche. The fries were hot and well-seasoned. Beautiful scenery as you dine.

Have been coming here for years and food has been excellent each time. CFS is not to thick with coating, has an excellent taste. The dishes that accompany the meals are very good. The scenery is dynamic, we usually stay during the winter time, less hectic and good time for couples.

Group of gals hungry from shopping at Loco Frio stopped in and had a wonderful outdoor lunch. A variety of entrees- burgers, salads and fantastic onion rings - were happily devoured. The cucumber and lime water was very refreshing. Two days later we returned and were again delighted with our meals.
The folks who own Hippie Chicks and the kind people working there seem to really care about their customers and the food they serve. We will be back...all the way from Plano, Colorado and Leander. It is nice to have a new dining option on the Frio.

Loved all the food we have ever had here!!!! Eating on the patio is pleasant during cool times, but better inside when it is hot. We have watched this place grow and are pleased.
