The food has always been good and there is a nice variety. It is popular so it can be crowded and a little too noisy if you are trying to meet someone for business or to really converse. The strawberry chicken salad is amazing and the half portions are not skimpy.

Pride Coffee

Reviewed By rebeccacharlene - Commerce, Texas

Commerce, Texas is truly lucky to have this place. The owners, Hans and Joslin, of Lebanese descent, originally wanted to offer quality coffee and a couple of sandwich options to students and professors from the local university and the broader community. Its popularity quickly grew and the demand for a broader menu led Hans to incorporate some of the foods he grew up with in his native country. Customers can request hummus on pita bread served with fresh fruit and vegetables or za'atar on pita with olive oil and cheese topped with black olives. Hans is a trained chef and uses only the freshest local ingredients. He also scouts the ethnic food markets in Dallas for the unique flavors that add interest to his food. While the food is excellent, what one will immediately notice about Pride Coffee is the passion the owners have for food and their love for what they do. You will always find Hans behind the counter, smiling, greeting customers, and personally approving every dish that goes out. He often brings out a little something extra for his customers, whether it be a slice of kebah, made with ground meat or lamb with spices, or baked potato slices topped with sea salt and a sprinkle of cinnamon. The prices are very reasonable and you always have the option of finishing off your meal with a cup of espresso and a rich, chocolaty muffin or slice of cheesecake. They also offer fresh-made smoothies, which are very pleasing to the college crowd. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Sweetie's Donut Shop

Reviewed By WM A M - NORTH HAVERHILL

This is a superb little donut shop in Commerce, Texas. It's not exactly on the beaten path, but the owner does a great job of focusing on the core of his business, and providing a relatively small variety of donuts, every one excellent. Right, that's exactly it: excellent. Better by far than Dunkin Donuts (the standard where I live), and better to my taste than Krispy Kreme (sp?)--not so greasy, and a bit more substantial. Not a cake donut, just substantial enough to be airily perfect. My comments are based on the glazed donuts, but they apply equally to the crullers, and others that I've eaten--all larger, more substantial confections for taking on the road. It's a long way to NH from Commerce.
I won't comment on the coffee, since I can't drink coffee. The tea is acceptable, what you get when you order it out everywhere I've ever been. At least he has it, unlike the near competitors, all of which we tried before we found this wonderful gem, a delightful remedy for early morning starvation in an unfamiliar location.
With regards to service and atmosphere, the owner was in the back making donuts every time we were there, and friendly enough to discover that we were from NH. He showed (as in "By their deeds shall ye know them") his appreciation for our custom, as we showed ours for his marvelous delicacies by returning every time we're within a hundred miles. It's "just" a donut shop, but don't miss this one.

The burgers are good and they seem fresh. Interior of restaurant is nice enough to not mind eating in. They do have a drive-through but it takes longer than most restaurants because they're real burgers and not fast food.

If in town on Wednesday after 4:00 PM be sure to hit their BOGO deal.

Dos Laredos

So I got the 'double' beef fajita quesadillas. For them, that was four small quarters with about 4 ounces of meat for $10. Sounds like a single to me, and not a full meal. And I didn't even get any pico de gallo or sour cream or guacamole. The rice was ok. No charro beans option and the refried beans were unimpressive. Chips seemed like heated up chips from a bag rather than house-made; salsa was okay. The waitress seemed surly. It's good to have this new option in Commerce, but they'll have to get much better to survive.

Hot and delicious food ,great customer service, I have been a customer for years and you can get pecan pie here cheaper than you can make at home. The hamburger combo is great with fries. And of course the hot fudge sundae. I gotta get to the gym.

McKay's Country Kitchen

Reviewed By Tony9876 - Huntsville, Texas

Have heard about McKay's for awhile and finally decided to try them. Only open for breakfast and lunch. I had the Chef Salad. It was about $5.50 and was a side salad sized bowl with lettuce, tomato and a bit of ham. That's all. Then, the toilet in the restroom did not / would not flush. With a plunger sitting beside it, I assume that's just the routine. They had a pretty good lunch crowd, so I guess they're doing some things okay, but their one chance to impress me did not.
