We enjoy this spot when we visit Denver. Previously Strings restaurant, and greatly improved. Service is very friendly and prompt, prices are not unreasonable, and the location is more in a neighborhood setting but close to museums and parks.

We had a fancy meal here on Thanksgiving. The steak was remarkably good and all the sides and earlier courses were tasty. The beet salad with honey goat cheese sticks out as worth trying. Cool neighborhood.

My dinner companion ordered catfish, which he expected to be like he had in his Navy days. What came was an elegant rendition of catfish meat mixed with grits in a delightful Carolina BBQ sauce (with a kick). I ordered the lobster avocado brioche. The chef had added capers, to my delight--what a lovely mix. It came with home made potato chips, just like my mother used to make. The crab bisque uses balsamic oil rather than sherry and cream for a twist on crab bisque, but it had a decent amount of crab in the cup. Everyone enjoyed good service, good seafood (although there are steaks available), and excellent service at a reasonable price.

Upscale, fine dining, Japanese Sushi restaurant, located off Steele Street and East 1st Avenue in the Steele Creek building in Denver's Cherry Creek area. Matsuhisa Denver serves sushi, seafood, salads, sake and cocktails in a posh setting.
We made reservations and arrived about 6 PM. There is only street parking or valet parking in the building. We were seated in a nice corner table for two, away from the sushi bar, but with a nice view of the bar, which is beautiful. The restaurant is dark, and had a Budda-Bar feel to it, due to the music. However, the music changed to much quieter, but perky, dining music shortly after we sat down. We were surprised how busy the restaurant was for a Tuesday night, so were glad we had made reservations.I had a Peru Margarita to start with, and I'm hooked! Slightly spicy, it was delicious. My husband enjoyed a Sapporo or two. Our waiter, Steve, explained that the dishes are all made for sharing, and recommended we order 4 or 5 dishes for the two of us. For starters, we had jalapeno yellowtail, a black cod lettuce cup and soft shell crab appetizer. We loved the jalapeno yellowtail, which Steve had recommended. We also loved the black cod lettuce cup, although it was small and difficut to share - we will each get one of the lettuce cups next time. We usually love soft shell crab, but the appetizer was not our favorite, and we wouldn't order it again. We debated ordering the shishito peppers, which the diners at the table next to us were enjoying with a dipping sauce, but we decided not to because we weren't sure how hot they would be. We then shared the rock shrimp tempura, followed by the king crab tempura "amazu," both of which were amazing! Each of the dishes came out separately, at a nice pace which allowed plenty of time to enjoy each dish by itself, without being rushed. Steve recommended I try a Skouras white wine from Greece and I enjoyed it very much - very different from a sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio, my usual go-toos. Not oakey like a chardonnay, either. I liked it so much, I purchased several bottes from Pete's Wine Store on Holly and Cedar in Denver. For dessert, we ordered a bento box (chocolate molten cake with a sauce and ice cream) to go, and it traveled the short distance back to our house very well. We loved that too.The service was excellent, and Steve's recommendations on the menu and wine were right on. In fact, pretty much everything about Matsuhisa is perfect. As others have pointed out, it is expensive, but well worth it. We can't wait to go back!

I had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant on a Saturday evening. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was great. Even the young man working the valet out front was a pleasure.

Good atmosphere and average food. There was lots to choose on the menu so decided to go with the charbroiled oysters, 1/2 lbs Dungeness crab, crab fried rice and corn bread. The oysters were seasoned well. You can choose between steamed or chilled Dungeness crab. I went with the steamed which was served with melted butter. Some parts of the crab were not as fresh and were tasteless. Fried rice is a very small portion. The corn bread was definitely my favorite dish. Restaurant is quiet noisy and where we were seated the table and chairs were really close together that it was hard to hear our own conversations.
