On our first night in Alamosa we decided to opt for a known entity, in this case Chili's. Having dined in several Chili's across the U.S., we knew what to expect. The food was well-prepared and the service acceptable. Chili's can tend to get very busy, which may result in a wait, but that was not the case here despite the crowd. The garden salad with chicken was very good. The fajitas (in this case chicken) are always a good bet and a very good value.

One of the best things about visiting the area is the food. Restaurant has nice atmosphere. Clean with plenty of seating space. Server was friendly. Chips and salsa provided. Salsa was good with a kick. Had tamale and rellano with Christmas chile. You can choose mild, medium or hot chile. I had medium. Yum! Just the right spiciness. Served with refried bean and Spanish rice. Prices were average , well worth it.

Came for dinner tonight and it was as good as ever. We come here during our summer stay and we weren't disappointed. I really like the roasted style salsa. I ordered the Vegetarian Combo Plate with Chile Relleno with green chili, Cheese Enchilada and Guacamole Tostada. It was very good but I was disappointed that they didn't use homemade guacamole but used the stuff in the pouch. Hubby said his combo of Beef Enchilada, Cheese Enchilada and Taco was very good. We also had a sopapilla with honey for dessert. We will be back next summer.

I ordered a combination that had beef burrito, cheese enchilada , Spanish rice and refried beans, The refried beans had an awful taste as if they were refried in rancid hamburger lard. The Spanish rice was flooded with pepper and cumin. The burrito was supposed to be beef but it had mostly beans. My wife had guacamole tostada, hard shell beef taco and bean burrito. I liked my wife's tostada and she liked the it and the beef taco. She also had problems with the rice and beans used in the meal. The salsa was awesome and the chips that came with it were crunchy and they had the right amount of salt. The green chili looked liked white gravy lacking the green chile and tasted like it was made with jalapeño powder.

My wife and I visit El Charro regularly. The food has always been awesome and the service is great. A few times we have been there the owner came out and greeted us. He took the time to visit with us-it made us feel very welcomed. I love their red chile it is awesome-my wife loves the green chile. Their salsa is also very good.
