Find out what Southwestern restaurants to try in Durango. Once a frontier mining town, Durango draws thousands of tourists year-round for the myriad outdoor recreational activities and scenic beauty. Mountain bikers, rafters, kayakers, horseback riders, rock climbers, hikers, campers, hunters and fishermen are drawn to the two-million acre San Juan National Forest and to the San Juan mountains, the largest range in the Rockies. But the city's biggest tourist draw is a nine-hour historic train ride in a vintage steam locomotive. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which hauled precious metals in the 1880s, now takes tourists for a 47-mile, open-air journey through mountains and forests and past abandoned mines to historic Silverton and back. Children and train buffs will relish the chance to climb into a locomotive and pore over railroad memorabilia at the railroad's museum. Skiers flock to the Durango Mountain Resort in winter, which also offers hiking, fishing, rafting and horseback riding in warmer months. Slow down your pace with a stroll past splendidly restored Victorian buildings in historic Downtown Durango and wind up a very active weekend in a local brewpub or saloon.

I donât know why youâre still sitting there considering a Mexican restaurant to eat at now. This restaurant is one of the best restaurants with Mexican style food I have eaten in a very long time.I lived in San Antonio after growing up in Southern California, so itâs with that exposure I whole hearty recommend The San Marcos as your place to eat.I had the best chimichanga here. I donât think I have ever experienced a better one in my life. I got the chicken, which was filled with shredded chicken, a marvelous chess sauce, plus the plate came with perfect refried beans and Spanish rice. Not to out done, I order a Cuban mule (rum and pineapple juice). The price is just right. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. A very clean environment, plenty of parking, and I still canât understand why you are still reading this. Get an Uber or designated driver and have a Cuban mule with your favorite Mexican food item. Now, for the locals. I was talking with a friend who grew up in Durango and he said that this restaurant location has had many owners and managers. The current ownership and style is relatively new, so go back if you were disappointed before, as now they will impress you.

Tequila's Family Mexican Restaurant, Durango Serves Mexican Food, Margaritas, and Beer to the Durango Area.
Best Mexican food in Durango in my opinion. This restaurant is awesome. The kindest most attentive waiters. Best Margaritas, best Carne Asada, best Chili Rejanos, best SALSA hands down. Can't say enough. Every dish I try here is awesome.

Queso tastes like canned synthetic cheese. Chicken enchiladas consist of runny stewed chicken inside a limp tortilla. The grilled shrimp was decent. Way too expensive for the mediocre food. The worst part was the heavy cologne our server wore. It just overwhelmed when he came near. That and his numerous attempts to up sell were tiring. Last visit for us.

We go to Colorado every September we can. Head straight for this place. I had cornbread and a Caprese salad. Husband ordered the filet and we shared the Olathe corn! OMG everything was so good. Staff are attentive as well. We enjoyed ourselves and the meal.

After a bad experience the previous night at that other Mexican restaurant, I was still in the mood for a good taco. Some people on our train ride recommended Nini's so we headed over. Other train riders were already eating when we entered and the place seemed very popular. Cookielee and I both ordered several different tacos, pork, chicken and beef. And of course we had to sample a large bowl of guacamole. Everything was perfect and we especially liked the mango salsa. This seems to be the "go to" Mexican restaurant in Durango and I can see why. Good food, great ambience and a nice staff. Recommended.

We believe in simple, tasteful, authentic food with an atmosphere and price that feels good, warms the soul, and reminds you that some of the better things in life are quite simple.
I found this spot on Trip Advisor and decided a couple tacos would be just the fuel I needed before an afternoon in the high country. When I walked in though, I almost turned right back around. There was a long line, and the restaurant layout sort of looked like a low budget Chipotle, but with purple and yellows instead of the more industrial feel of the national chain. I'm glad I gave it a chance. The Sinaloa Chicken and the Green Chile Pork tacos I had were the best tasting food of the entire trip. I can't wait to go back. Their green salsa (spicy) was another unexpected surprise and a highlight of the visit.Adam - so glad you stayed! Thanks for the review, even if you don't like our style much :) We can't wait to have you back!

Stopped by for lunch after reading all the positive reviews. Maybe we were expecting something stellar, but were underwhelmed by the whole experience. The atmosphere is old west and probably the best thing about this place. Service was average and nothing special. The food was not particularly good. Edible, but not great. Walked away feeling disappointed.

This was just an awesome breakfast with fresh, hot coffee, homemade biscuits, GREAT home fries! I had the traditional Benedict, which was yummy - hollandaise was creamy big light. Son had the smothered burrito, which he said was greet with just the right amount of heat (too hot for me undoubtedly). BLT was great along with regular egg dish. Highly recommend!
