A peaceful experience in a charming provincial house. Mesón del Alférez Coatepec is an elegant hotel with beautiful rooms surrounding a lovely courtyard.
This place is setup in what must have been a private home a hundred years or so ago. It has a central garden with a fountain, around which rooms are located. Rooms are the most unique I can remember, loft style, with narrow ceramic stairs, beautiful tiled bathrooms, and period wooden doors. The breakfast buffet is basic, but enough--you really don't want to fill up on hotel food in such a lovely town. Grab a coffee, fruit or pastry, then head out to find a nice spot to eat :) The staff is super friendly, parking is available in a private lot across the street, and the downtown is within walking distance. The WiFi is strong, the A/C + Heater unit does its job (winter nights can get really chilly in Veracruz). Do you have other options? Perhaps, but this one is unique :)

In Casa Real del Cafe we are proud to be a theme hotel. We are located a few blocks away from downtown. All of our rooms have free wi-fi, cable tv, and security boxes. Our master suites include an indor jacuzzie. We also have free parking. In our restaurant "Antiguo Beneficio" we serve tipical and regional food for our guests. You will also be able to taste our home made bread and our fresh brewed coffe! If you choose to stay with us in Coatepec, Pueblo Magico, you will be very closed to visit other magigal towns nearby, like Xico (15 minutes), Jalcomulco (40 minutes), Xalapa (15 minutes), Naolinco (45 minutes), the port of Veracruz (1hr).
If seeing places not meet their potential frustrates you, then don't stay here. We chose this hotel as it was rated well in the Lonely Planet guide, which promised a renovated colonial hotel with amazingly tiled bathrooms. Well... maybe one room in the hotel has that. They've built a modernish four story structure behind the main hotel plaza that has small, dark rooms with tiny bathrooms. Make sure you ask for the rooms off the casona courtyard, those seem to be larger and better appointed. Another disappointment is the lack of screens on the windows. The climate in Coatepec is delightful for most of the year, and one thing I was looking forward to was sleeping with my windows open for the night breeze and evening rains to lull me to sleep. Nope. Voracious mosquitoes abound, so we had to shut up all the windows each eve. Another missed opportunity is the quality of the coffee. For a place that prides itself on coffee culture, and claims to be owned by local coffee farmers, their coffee offerings were... standard drip coffee of mediocre quality. Come on! We are IN Coatepec, the capital of coffee, knock my socks off! Nope. And the kitchen closes at 2pm, so if you'd like to mull the evening rain from the shelter of the casona courtyard with a steaming cup of anything, forget it. Anyway... on the positive side, if you want to know what it's like to sleep with pitch black and silence, this is the hotel... wow, it's quiet at night, and dark. Fantastic! The location is good too, an easy walk to the center of Coatepec and it's various sights. It was our base of operation to explore the area too, like Xico and Xalapa, and it served that role very well, with adjacent parking easily accessible. They were helpful in setting up a really nice coffee themed tour of the area. All in all, the hotel could do so much more. They should raise their prices a bit and focus on improving the rooms around the courtyard and service, rather than building more tiny rooms out back.

I’ve stayed at the Hotel Posada San Jerónimo many times over the years. The hotel is beautiful with a lovely garden and fountain next to the patio dining area. The on-site restaurant, La Fuente, serves delicious, regional food. They also provide off-street parking, which is a huge bonus. Upstairs there is a wonderful bar you can reserve for special occasions. The view from up there is spectacular. The rooms are clean and lovely with slightly rustic furniture. The beds are comfortable, and the water pressure in the large shower is a great treat. For those who’ve traveled much in Mexico, you know what a blessing this is. The hotel is about two blocks from the Zocolo. It sits on a quiet street so there is little road noise. Come enjoy the amenities, and the friendly and attentive staff. This will become your home away from home whenever you are in the area. Happy trails.

Let say first of all, that Alex, reception desk staff and our tour guide were exceptional. Whowever, be aware to keep valuables at all times. We had cash, jewelry and liquor taken while rooms were being cleaned.

This was by far the best hotel I stayed on my recent trip to Mexico. In an historical building in a lovely town. Room was very clean with a little sitting area. Shower was nice and hot and there was a hairdryer. The only odd thing was the cold water faucet on the sink was broken off so I could only get hot water. No big deal but it seems that would be easy to fix. Breakfast was ok but very slow. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

What more can you ask for? For a penny-watching traveler, finding a 5-star place on a low-star budget is a real treat. Hotel La Orquidea fit that bill. The people are warm and hospitable, the on-site cafe serves fresh, homecooked local foods, and my room was sparkling clean and comfortable ... all at a reasonable rate. The location is close to the central plaza and parking is available. WiFi is good, which is important for business travelers. I will stay here again when I return to Coatepec.
