Things to do in David
Your basic hole in the wall.. Ok menu del dia. Good portion of chicken, beans and rice with plantain at a very reasonable price. The place is air conditioned, the bear cheap and the service ok. Can't really complain, just ok food if you happen to be around there⦠Hope this review was helpful!!!

La Negrita is one of the greatest exponents of typical Panamanian and Chirican food. Backed by the famous chiricana the black margarita and its hundreds of recipes of the best typical dishes of the area. Try our sancocho, gallina or grilled pork.
I thought "look at this great looking restaurant" when they remodeled and opened a while back. Then I went in and the food is just plain tipico, nothing at all special, noting different.. you can buy this food anywhere in varying degrees of price and flavor. I did try a little of the food, the rice with beans over it but the rice was dry...
We ate at Mar Caribe on 6/7 midafternoon for an early dinner. We had a whole lightly fried red snapper and a baked filet of fish (I think it was sea bass). The fish was perfectly cooked and served with potatoes and veggies. The potatoes were boiled and served with butter and herbs. Everything was excellent, and the portions were generous. The total was $30 for two entrees, two beers, and a desert milkshake (we asked for a custom concoction of all fruits mixed together- ironically the milkshake cost the same as 4 beers!). Mar Caribe has free wifi too. Code MARCARIBE30 (all CAPS required), and it was pretty fast for Panama standards. The staff was the most attentive and fastest of any restaurants we ate at in Panama.Mar Caribe is super close to the airport in David. As you exit the airport, turn right, drive about 1/2 kilometer, and it's on the right.

Had a sopa de tortilla which was really tasty. Just the right amount of spice. Good amount of tortillas cheese and avocado in it. The spicy michelada was very good. I likes the fact that they put some cilantro in it. The tacos were good as well. One dish had tortillas which could have been heated up a bit more but all in all compared to other Mexican restaurants in Panama I give this 5 stars. Service was attentive and we were even allowed to have our dog with us - outside on the terrace, having sacrificed air conditioning for it. Will definitely return

MultiCafe is a cafeteria-style restaurant with 2 locations in downtown David. This review is of the larger of the 2 restaurants, the one located next door to the Castilla Hotel. But much of the review applies to both because they have the same cafeteria-style, fare and prices. The big draw of MultiCafe is that it's a relatively inexpensive place to eat with better than average quality food. It's quite apparent that it's the busiest restaurant in town with the bulk of their customers being locals who recognize the relative value of the place. From having eaten there several times it is also apparent that many locals find it a good place to meet up with friends and business associates. The clientele is also sprinkled with a few seemingly budget-minded tourists. The seating area is large, it is well air-conditioned and the staff is accommodating. As has been mentioned by others, indigenous women and children sometimes can be found seated outside the restaurant begging for money or food and in our experience on one occassion a child looking for a handout finagled her way inside the restaurant when the staff briefly let their guard down. But to be realistic, indigeous women and children begging is a fact of life in much of downtown David that is frequented by tourists. One final point: don't confuse the two MultiCafes in downtown David. There is another one only two blocks away, facing Parque de Cervantes. It is much smaller and is also very busy, especially at meal times, but is frequented almost exclusively by locals. The ambiance of that MultiCafe is far less attractive, however.

We don't know what the names are but both of our meals were wonderful. My wife had steak (cooked perfectly) topped with shellfish with a marinade. I had a steak (also perfectly cooked) with shrimp and longostinas in a delicious gravy sauce. We topped this off with pisco sours. Perfect dinner for my wife's birthday.
