It was a spring evening and after two hours of shopping at the Mitsui Outlet complex we decided to have an early dinner before heading home to Tokyo.Maison Kayser is very well located, in a corner position with wide visibility. The entrance is through their bakery and this was crowded with locals buying all types of breads and pastries. We were shown in immediately into the restaurant which was mostly empty. Small table for two with the usual baskets for our bags and belongings. The menu was limited and we selected the grilled vegetables, a sakura shrimp soup and grilled Aomori Salmon. We had a surprise when we were told that bread was extra and was Yen 500 per head. This was the first time in Japan that we were asked to pay for bread - and that is after ordering dinner for around Yen4500. Not impressed we declined. Meals were served hot and quality was fair but not brilliant. One item that we question the hygiene aspect of was the SALT. They gave us 3 types of hard rock salt which we had to hold with our fingers and scrape. JUST A MINTUE. So the previous person also touched this salt with their bare fingers with their sweat, oil, cream and so on?? Really?? Come come Maison Kayser you should know better than that!!This may be contrary to Japanese food laws. Once anything that is not in a container is served to the customer, anything remaining has to be thrown out. It cannot be served again. So what is the story with this salt? Is this permitted under the food code?Maison Kayser should provide salt mills which are hygienic and non contact to avoid any issues with health or infection.

Near the East exit of the station and near to the bus depot also. This is a chain in Japan, I think they also own Excelsior but not sure. You will see them all over Japan. Here it is very convenient but can be crowded at times. Reasonable prices and nice selection of goodies. Good spot to wait for train or bus. Use restrooms in train station. Wheelchair accessible. I believe they ah e entrance/exit on two different floors.
