Chester-le-Street (/ˈtʃɛstər li ˈstriːt/) is a town in County Durham, England. Its history goes back to the building of a Roman fort called Concangis. This Roman fort is the "Chester" (from the Latin castra) of the town's name; the "Street" refers to the paved Roman road that ran north–south through the town, and which is now called Front Street (shown at right).

Our new extension has now been open for 7 months and if you've not yet experienced our dinning area then pop down to enjoy some great food and excellent service from all our friendly staff.
Been a while since we ate here. Service is excellent quick and friendly. Food is very nice just wish they would change the menu it's been the same for a long time. Didn't notice if the specials board was still on.

We just called in on late on Sunday afternoon for a bite too eat and we weren't disappointed. The normal menu was available plus sunday lunch. The starters and mains were delicious and reasonably priced. Service was good and there was a reasonable choice of beers and wines. After a shaky start when it reopened a few years ago it is much improved. We will definitely visit again.

Been going here for years, whether it’s for drinks or food, can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it before now!!
Anyway, this is an absolute gem of a bar/restaurant, whether you’re after an easy afternoon out for drinks, night out with friends or a good meal, this ticks all the boxes.
Keith, Holly and the staff are friendly, professional and make all feel completely welcome and comfortable, quite simply if you’re coming to Chester le street you have to come in here, cheers, Lee.

Called mid week on the spur of the moment. New decoration and new staff. We were told the new management took over at the end of September. Food still delicious and with an additional 3 course special menu which includes a good choice, - from pasta to steak. Still cozy and first class service. Will be returning. Highly recommended.

Lovely Mother’s Day lunch, 6 adults & 4 children all aged below 8. Food was beautiful and waiters were all great, had great personalities that added to our day!! All mothers were given a special surprise gift of a potted plant and a bottle of prosecco, which was a really lovely touch!! Excellent value for money, we will be back!! Thank you again x

Very good value for money. Choose between 2 or 3 courses. The minestrone soup was tomato flavoured and full of chunky vegetables.Served with bread and butter. The cannelloni with a choice of pasta was delicious. Then choose between coffee, tea or ice cream. A very enjoyable lunch

Went for the 3rd time tonight and had yet another exceptional meal. I asked for any dishes with paneer and was told they would customise any curry for us. We could have it changed for lamb/chicken etc.or we could have it with the dish...We all had our meat dishes with paneer, I don't know any other restaurants that would do that. We had all of the food for all of us to share and everyone loved everything apart from me....I burnt my mouth on my mates curry!!! The waiter, bless him he came over to ask if I wanted a glass of water, when he saw me drinking yoghurt out of the dips!!! I just asked for my pride back! lol! This is the only place we will ever go to for a meal or takeaway. xx

Sister Restaurant To Sangreela Restaurant
Have called here many times for takeaway food and the food has always been very, good finally dined here and was very impressed. The dining rooms (up and downstairs) are small but everything is perfectly presented with decor polished and gleaming and very professional staff. The wine arrived in an ice bucket with napkined neck and was nicely chilled but the star of the show is the food, rice the best we have ever tasted, chicken and prawns (real prawns) perfectly cooked in delicious sauces.
All in all a great little Indian restaurant, one minor point:- dim the lights it's a little bright.

Previously known as "Italia Retro Restaurant at The Board Inn"
I nearly drove past this place. It looks like a run-down pub from the outside, with a painted sign on the wall opposite the car park directing you that the restaurant entrance is out back.
It isn't.
You walk in through the pub entrance, to be greeted by a dark old-fashioned and neglected small pub.
The nice waitress then directed me to walk through to the back. This isn't signposted very well, and you think you are walking through to the toilets, but then emerge into the restaurant.
This is a completely different room, and a completely different atmosphere and is really nice.
[If the owners read this - please sort out the 'arrival' of customers. Just ditch off the pub, or make a separate entrance at the back. Make the most of the fact that you have a great little restaurant].
The staff was attentive, and the food prompt and well-cooked.
I had the melanzana (which was delicious), and the steak with tagliatelle and mushrooms which again was really nice.
If you are passing, then look this place up. It's well worth a stop.

The Church Mouse in Chester-le-Street is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
My wife and I recently had a lunchtime meal at The Church Mouse. The weather was cold and snowy but the room was warm and had a cosy feel. We sat near one of the log fires in perfect comfort. Our server was very friendly...MoreBrian S, thank you for the high star rating! We're looking forward to your next visit with us! regards, Jake.
