Order off the specials board. Ask the waitress what she suggests. We both loved our lunch. Great old diner with tablecloths full of old-time ads for dresses, dolls, hats, etc. A regular stop for locals. We met a high school history teacher and got caught up in the local gossip. Best meal in Chester.

Had a good burger here with decent onion rings. Reasonably priced for what you get, plus they let you dress your own burger with the little toppings bar. You order at the window when you get in. The vegetarian options were ok.

The Max coffee is great, smiles all around in service, terrific cinnamon rolls, free WIFI, and drive thru if you're in a hurry. But the shaded outside seating is wonderful. Stop by all day.

The house special chow mein has so much cabbage and no taste. Another cabbage dish--mu-shu pork--also has no taste, only the crunchiness of almost raw cabbage. So perhaps it's the fault of the cabbage. I am glad the restaurant is doing well: packed house, rave reviews, best-in-Chester TripAdvisor ranking. But I prefer my Chinese food to have taste and flavor, even if that means extra oil, salt, and sugar.

My husband and I ate here 10years ago and went back this weekend while visiting Chester. the old house turned eatery has a Creekside dining patio as well as a lower room with Air conditioning. The offerings for Breakfast, which is served all day, as well as lunch are freshly prepared ingredients which are tasty and well developed. the chef took time to come out and check on how our meal was. We loved the delicious cobb salad and the basil chicken wrap. Prices are modest and the service is very friendly.

The pot roast was the only item in the menu that attracted my attention, and it didn't disappoint. It was so tasty I almost finished the whole enormous portion, which could easily feed three adults. It came with a meal-size side salad, choice of potato (mashed, fries), and dinner roll. This was the best dinner I had in Chester.

Stopped in to pick up two sandwiches to take back to our motel. The restaurant didn't seem all that busy but it still took the kitchen 30 minutes to produce TWO sandwiches. The food wasn't bad but I'll lower my rating because my GF almost had to send out a search party to find me because it took so long.

Spent the day hiking at Lassen Park and needed some nice craft beers..not that easy here in Chester. Luckily our hotel called them to make sure they were open and had the beers on the menu. Off we went and were glad we did. 9 beers on tap, some local and others well thought out. Service staff very friendly, charming and knowledgeable about local activities. The grand plus is the kitchen....great Asian tacos, shrimp tacos, fresh salads, with dressings home made. It all looked good and was reasonably priced. What a gem!!

Carol's Ranch House

Reviewed By Rainier72 - Lynnwood, Washington

Not sure if I've eaten breakfast in a bar before. For a change of pace, we tried Carol's Ranch House for breakfast one morning. Almost gave up looking for a parking spot. Busy. The Ranch House is basically a rustic bar, but it does have a lot of seating and set up so you don't necessarily feel like you're in one. Pretty extensive menu for breakfast. Didn't notice as much on the dinner menu. The place is only open at certain times, so be careful with that. Went with the standard bacon and eggs breakfast with hash browns and toast. Pretty good for bar food. Our server was great and ended up having a nice conservation with her at the end. Even when a family issue came up and they closed early, there was no rush on their part to get customers out. If I had known earlier, I would have hurried a bit. Apparently this place is known for their prime rib. We were invited to come back for dinner, but didn't feel like splurging that night. Carol's is a nice place to go for a small town home feeling experience. I would go back.
