We've been to this restaurant a few times and sometimes the food has been stodgy, with the same accompaniments served for all of the main courses i.e. little thought given to which vegetable or side dish is suited to the fish, meat, poultry or vegetarian main course. This visit I was completely taken aback by the quality of the food, the thoughtful combination of flavours and textures and the presentation. We had the €40 menu (amuse bouche, starter of quail with chocolate-morel sauce or foie gras, mains of which we both chose the lamb rack with pesto sauce; course of cheese platter or soft white cheese with black currants, and then desert). There is a wide choice of options on the menu (especially for the Deserts – we had vanilla ice cream with quince liqueur). The quail starter was particularly good with an interesting combination of flavours. The lamb was perfectly cooked, tender and enhanced by the pesto sauce. The accompaniments were well suited to the lamb (polenta and steamed vegetable mix). The vanilla ice cream was good. The quince liqueur was pleasant but did not taste very much of quince, as I’d hoped. All in all an excellent meal; great ambience with décor that is typical of the region and is somewhere between skiing, farm house, natural history and teddy bear museums. The staff are helpful and friendly – definitely worth a visit.

We have been visiting Le Renard for more than a decade and the standards never vary. First rate welcome from Mathilde and team. Rob’s cooking is really excellent and the variety of the menu is always an attraction. They have great choices of wine of the month. Renard is brilliant for a drink or supper and exceptional value for money with their all-inclusive lunch menu
Simple can’t recommend the place enough. Go visit if you are in the Abondance Valley

The restaurant feels cosy and seems to be a family run business. The owners are warm and welcoming. The menu is simple and served much the same fare as most other restaurants in town. We found it slightly pricier than some of the other restaurants but it's a small complain as the food was great, service wonderful and wine was good. Also dog friendly but it's almost a given in this town.

We have an apartment in Chatel and been this season as a couple, with couples and with friends. It's very well priced for the quality of food and service always great. Would recommend. As the last review says, Chatel now has more residents than the town has tables for dinner and so booking is highly recommended.

Friends recommended we try here however we were too early for lunch so called in just for hot chocolate and vino chaud. It blew our minds, I don't want to spoil the surprise but you should call in even just to look around. Apparently there is entertainment laid on at lunch time however we weren't fortunate enough to be there then.

The only thing we have in our freezer is ice cream and booze! All of our food is homemade, from the buns for the burgers to the burger sauce and hand-cut chips. Our pizzas are made from truly wonderful Napolitan flour and incredibly good mozzarella. We have a very small but perfectly formed menu, lovingly prepared for you by our food obsessed boys Tony and PomPom in the kitchen. The bar is just a cool place to hang out and relax with friends, and be served delicious wines from around the world, artisanal local beers, and premium spirits , by our lovely ladies Tina and Amy. Downstairs is our resident pizzaiolo Jem, and his fab sidekick Rosie. You're gonna love those pizzas !! But please be patient, it takes a lot of time and love to produce food this fresh and of this quality! SLOW FAST FOOD !!
Was not expecting such a good meal at a pizza place, almost didn't go in as I'm not a fan of pizza. Best hamburger I've ever had my husband had a wrap. They offered an assortment of salads as well. The service was friendly and...MoreThank you, glad you enjoyed it! Is that DeAnna and Roger?! X

Petit Restaurant Savoyard Et Familial Cuisinant Principalement Des Plats A Base De Fromage: Fondue Au Fromage, Tartiflette, Berthoud, Croute Au Fromage. Notre Petit Restaurant Ne Peux Pas Prendre Des Groupe De Plus De 8 Personnes: Salle Et Cuisine Trop Petite, Merci De Votre Compréhension.
Our friends ate here the first night of their stay in Chatel, and loved it so much they booked the next night when we were arriving. It is a super little French mountain restaurant, outfitted in basic wooden everything (walls, decorations, etc) which serves an abundance of very tasty food. We each ordered raclette, as it was a chilly evening here. The raclette comes with a serving of mixed green salad, followed by a plate of various cold cuts, and then the potatoes and cheese. We obviously could not finish all that was served. Sebastien (owner/waiter) was charming and really enjoyed what he was doing. Superb find!

We had to reserve 24 hrs in advance (it seems to be the case for all decent restaurants in Chatel these days)
Tiny restaurant downstairs (I'd guess 32 covers), good but typical Savoyarde menu, very cool waitress who entertained our attempted ordering en Francais
Overall the food was good, ambience excellent and therefore a great evening

If you are willing to go for some pancakes (sweet or salty) and do not have much ideas what you would like to have inside, have a stop at this restaurant. They are offering you more than 50 different salty and another 30 different sweet pancakes. Just looking at the menu will make you want to try many different combinations which are all attractive.
I tried the Tartiflette pancake with the Reblochon cheese and it was great.
Still had a bit of space left for a sweet one with Caramel and salted butter.
Yummy !
