Portaria seemed like a nice village. The taxi driver recommended this place. We took a taxi from volos for 17 euros.
The restaurant was in the main plaza of the village. It had a nice fire place and felt really wintery. We thought it was expensive compared to other restaurants in the area. The food was really heavy on our stomachs because it was extremely oil. As a result we had a hard time sleeping at night. The ambience of the restaurant though was just right.

We are veggies and had lots of choices, several salads and dips and all was very tasty with a lick that we did not feel at dinners all over the north and center of Greece for the last week
The zucchini patties hat a nice touch of anis,
The green pepper in the salat as from their garden and was very mild. The Tziziki was generous with garlic an i liked it and so was the Eggplant dish that was grilled thin slices of it seasoned above and a sprinkle of cheese.
The fried cheese with sesame in cucumber(?) oil with honey was GREAT.
The service was very good, the waiteras very rapid in his move and looking at clients to see if he was needed.
The oner came in as we were in the middle of dinner and introduced herself, and it felt tyat she cared of the other dinning table near us
The place is small , saw the sunset as we had a glass of(the owner's) home made wine.

One of the superior eateries in the greater Volos area. Very pleasant during the summer, with huge trees offering generous shade (we visited in August). The freshness of the ingredients was obvious. They smoke their own pork steaks, recommended. Very relaxed atmosphere, lots of room for the children to run around, if you visit for lunch on a weekday (as we did).

This old inn, enlarged with a rather ugly extension is located downhill the village of Hania at a plateau, at the edge of the forest, overlooking beatiful Valleys.
Probably lacking on ambience, but food is great! Probably the best in the area.
A notable event in the history of the place is the passing of the greatest politician of modern Greece, Eleftherios Venizelos.

We have visited this place with my family during our stay in Portaria. The food was very tasty and well cooked. We had a bootle of rose wine from local producer, Karipidis Winery, highly recommended. A little bit pricy compared to other restaurants in the area but it worth it!!!

The most beautiful, wonderful, unforgettable cafe! Almost the all places in this area has great view, but this cafe has as well as beautiful big garden with variety of nice flowers and parrots in the cages! Marvelous atmosphere is accompanied by lovely music. They serve a very good coffee and pies, has a good service and they're very attentive to the clients.
I didn't want to live, and I hope I will come there again. I imprinted this scene on my memory!
