We visit this restaurant whenever we can. The locally sourced food is always very well cooked and presented. There are two main menus which are wide enough to offer choice but small enough to ensure they are well prepared and the ingredient are fresh.
The amuse bouche are always interesting.
The owners are happy to enthusiastically discuss their winse in English or of course French and will serve by the glass which is a help for drivers and couple who cannot agree!
There is a special lunch time menu which is quite a bit cheaper. Market day Tuesday needs a reservation.

My husband and I have enjoyed this cozy restaurant several times and it seemed a good choice for a casual Valentine's day lunch. Not surprisingly, all the tables were reserved and we were happy to be there a bit early. The menu, always limited, was set especially for the day with only two choices for each course. We tried one of each. I began with the sautéed snails and frogs legs, done with garlic, herbs and small crisp pieces of potatoes while my husband had the risotto with seared scallops. Both were excellent, but we agreed the snails were really more original. As a main course, I chose the tajine of pintade (guinea fowl) with dried fruits, deliciously moist and succulent. Patrick had the fish, a grilled merlu served with heavenly garlic cream. Desserts was a delicious orange tiramisu or an unusual apple crumble made with thyme. For wine, the hostess surprised us by suggesting a favorite Italian white, Greco de Tufa, which was perfect with all. The service was impeccable and the ambiance was charming--in fact, all the tables began talking together and soon we were exchanging addresses with our neighbors. One had the sense of a real neighborhood bistro where people came to enjoy their meals and the company.

Used TripAdvisor to find this restaurant and had a lovely meal!
The decor is certainly interesting, bright colours and modernist but it worked. The owners were very welcoming indeed and coped with certain food intolerances well.
The fillet steak that I ordered was absolutely perfect with just enough vegetables accompanying it.
All in all the whole experience was a great success and we shall certainly return when next in Challans.

We stayed in Challans for a week in what turned out to be a disappointing hotel. Fortunately on our first evening we chose to eat at Le Louis XIII. The restaurant is an auberge which dates from 1580 and the atmosphere is very pleasant.
The staff were welcoming and helpful and the service was very good. The food was delicious with good portions, beautifully prepared and presented. Although we tried other places, this was our favourite and we returned twice more. The restaurant is also a crêperie so that adds to the choice of meals on offer. A three course meal for 2 with half a litre of the house wine came to about £46 - excellent value for the quality. I would love to go back!

In my experience in France there are very few non-French restaurants. You have to go to the big cities like La Roche sur Yon to find an Indian as we know them in Blighty. Yet in Challans you can find Le Mekong which has a variety of eastern foods. You can choose from Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese or Laotian
We had the 25.50 € set menu and a bottle of Tavel Rose at 20 €. Total 71 €. Or £58 for two people.

Our restaurant is a wonderful place of peace in the middle of a park in Vendee. Our chef, creates menus for you all year long with seasonal meats and vegetables. You will enjoy to eat with us for a romantic diner or for private party. Open for Christmas and 1st January.
Five of us enjoyed a Saturday lunch at the Chateau de la Verie. What a special experience. We were blessed with beautiful weather on the day and so decided to eat outside. The building itself and the extensive grounds are very impressive and help to ensure an ambience and a dining experience to remember. The food was of the highest quality and the service was everything you would expect from a restaurant of this standard. We all chose different dishes from the menu and it would be difficult to highlight any particular dish as they were all presented so well and were delicious tasting. Taking into account the quality of the food, the service and the location, we considered the cost of our lunchtime experience to be very good value for money. We can't wait to visit there again.

My wife and I visited with 2 friends for lunch in July 2013. Useful location 3 minutes walk from the bustling market. 3 excellent courses including a large buffet to start with, drinks and coffee came to about 60 euros between us. Excellent service, comfortable friendly ambience, well prepared dishes. The restaurant was full but the bonus and recommendation was that all the other guests were French.

A good choice for each course on the menu du jour, reasonably priced wine too. The staff were pleasant and service efficient with rests between each course.
