Cantina de Ferrel

Pequeno restaurante de inspiração na cozinha italiana, como alternativa ao excelente cozinha portuguesa

This restaurant is not truly Italian. The menu had lots of spelling mistakes. The food was not authentic. It took loooong to get anything. People in restaurants in Ferrel seem opportunistic and make you feel like they are doing you a favor. Wake up. No one’s going to come back next year.

We have just had yet another fabulous meal at Moo. We have eaten there with friends and as a couple and each time the service and food has been excellent. From the minute you walk in the door you are made to feel welcome. With such a wide range of steaks and other meats there is something for everyone, cooked exactly as you like it. My favourite desert has to be the special small selection with a choice of coffee. Strawberries in lime, a mini pastel de nata and a perfect little chocolate cake. Can’t wait for our next visit!

We enjoyed dinner here. The fish soupe and the octopus from my spouse was formidable. My vegetarian curry (based on pumpkin) was very nice, although a little bit sweet. The wine was excellent and staff very friendly, helpful and attentive. The choice for dessert was very large. Thank you. We would come back.

We had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant. The service was great with knowledgeable and friendly staff. The food (red snapper, turbot, 2 types of prawn dishes) was first class. Although slightly more expensive relative to other places, the quality made it very good value. It was a great and memorable evening.

We visited The Base Cafe Bar for the first time last night to support the first ever ‘Taco Tuesday’. Based on our experience and a little bit of people watching, it was an overwhelming success, the place was buzzing! The vibe is very trendy with an upbeat atmosphere, service is professional yet super friendly and relaxed. The decor is contemporary yet cosy with some shared seating areas a couple of long bench tables. There is also an outdoor courtyard area with plenty of space to lounge around on the grass on a sunny evening. The view over the dunes to the ocean is picturesque and on a clear, warm evening I can imagine it being the perfect place to watch the sunset. The cocktails are expertly mixed, I tried the home made ginger ale with vodka and the punch of aromatic flavour it delivered was epic! My boyfriend isn’t a fan of cocktails so tried the craft beer which he really enjoyed. Both were good value and had I not been driving, I would liked to sample a few more of their delicious concoctions! We also both ordered a taco basket as the buzz around the new concept was palpable! There were dozens of very well received baskets flying out of the kitchen as well numerous mini pulled pork sliders. When our tacos arrived we were not disappointed, they were so fresh and vibrant with layers of punchy summery flavours that danced across your palate. It was clear that a huge amount of thought and preparation had gone in to each and every ingredient and the resulting product was top class. Compliments to the chef! Overall a stylish, dynamic and spirited bar which I can not wait to return to on a warm & sunny afternoon when I am not driving home!

Even though Elemento is in a small village some 5 to 20 KM from popular tourist destinations in the area, we say 'GO'. Proprietor/Assistant Chef/Host, Martina & Chef, Michael, spent 15 years working in restaurants in Czechoslovakia to Aberdeen to Paris before opening Elemento in 2018 and are using all that experience to make Elemento a special dining experience, unlike any other in this area of Portugal. We enjoyed three appetizers. A mushroom terrine was creamy and light. A country pate was robust, yet succulent. Thin slices of Whiting fish were served over a perfectly matched salad. All were delicious. We then enjoyed the fish dish of the evening, Hake, caught that morning, served over a triple-bean ragout and root vegetables. As with the appetizers, the Hake was cooked perfectly, ensuring that its delicate flavors impressed your palate. After all that, we were not shocked that a Panna Cotta was first class and was topped off with a mouth-watering berry sauce. We will be surprised if we have another meal as inventive and delicious on this trip, except when we return to Elemento next week after visiting Porto and the Douro Valley. Chef Michael is very talented.Elemento is small, seating about 24 patrons each evening, so reservations are recommended. Prices reflect the location and are incredibly reasonable. The menu is short; 3 appetizers and 3 entrees. Each evening there is one fish entree, one meat entree and one vegan entree. The wine list is also short, like many restaurants in this area, and (just like other restaurants in this area) features a few of the 300+ grape varieties grown in Portugal that are a mystery to most of us. Thankfully, Martina is very serious about wine and has an educated palate and we enjoyed her selection. We say 'GO' because dining at Elemento will stand out from other restaurants in this area; because Chef Michael is very talented; because Martina is a restaurateur on a mission creating a fine dining experience in the most unlikely of places; and, last but not least, because Michael and Martina's enthusiasm and commitment radiates and brings Elemento to life in a way that belies it humble location. We could only be happier if they had landed near us in Northern California!
