Chalcis (/ˈkælsɪs/; Ancient Greek & Katharevousa: Χαλκίς, Chalkís) or Chalkida (Modern Greek: Χαλκίδα, [xalˈciða]) is the chief town of the island of Euboea in Greece, situated on the Euripus Strait at its narrowest point. The name is preserved from antiquity and is derived from the Greek χαλκός (copper, bronze), though there is no trace of any mines in the area. In the late Middle Ages, it was known as Negropont(e), an Italian name that has also been applied to the entire island of Euboea.

Someone had suggested we visit the Lupo restaurant but we went in the wrong door and are pleased we did so. The menu was varied and we ate there two nights. We both had the same each time - breaded chicken pieces in a pitta bread with salad, a large pork fillet with fries, a shared salad of lettuce, tomato and cabbage and a litre of house white wine - all for under 30 Euros and with quick, pleasant and polite service in a pleasant environment.

We went to have a traditional Greek pita gyros and feta cheese. When the waiter came to take our order, he informed us that they had special lamb chops and traditional Greek homemade burger stuffed with cheese. We also ordered some skewered pork and chicken which we loved. Rverything was very clean. The staff was very friendly with a good knowledge of English. We will definitely pay another visit soon!!!
