Came in for some take away after a long day of touring and was not very comfortable entering. Waiter/staff seemed off put by my request to order food and pointed me downstairs to a friendly woman that was more accommodating. I was unable to obtain a menu and was told what they would make me.....a pasta with meat sauce, a salad and pork chops. The food was decent enough, but based upon the unfriendly first impression and an inability to actually order what we wanted, I can't see returning here for a sit down. I know Italy doesn't do take out great, but if you are serving food, you may want to think this aspect. I doubt they survive in this area.

This old and fascinating restaurant is located in the very heart of Castiglione, a marvelous historical town on the Trasimeno lake. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming and the staff professional and extremely friendly.. but the food is not at the same level.. dishes are well presented but not tasty! They miss a sparkle.. theyâre flat. Itâs a shame because the potential is very high!!

Italy is expensive when you have the standard three-course meal. Not here. The three course meals we had were about 25⬠per person, including wine and water. Still the food was first-rate! It truly is a family restaurant; Grandma in the kitchen, Mom runs the front with Dad's help, but he's a mostly in the kitchen too, while the two young ones play with each other in the dining room. This is an osteria, which means it's a neighborhood place, and we felt welcome. The interactions and people watching combined with really very good food made it among the best experiences over two weeks in Italy. The menu changes so much there is no menu. The owner comes out and tell you what they are making that day, and you choose one of the four pastas for your first, one of the four meats for the second, and there is a selection of vegetables that are served family-style for the third. While their English isn't perfect, and my Italian is largely limited to food words, we really enjoyed our interactions with them and they did a fantastic job patiently helping us understand the options. They are wonderful people, and they really showed appreciation for our repeat business. Made by really amazing Italian cooks who love making mind-blowing food, we enjoyed home made pasta varieties in seasonal, perfectly balanced and tasty sauces; meat options that were prepared exquisitely in a variety of ways ranged from wild boar, a bird (I don't recall the Italian word for - was told it was "like chicken" but it tasted better than chicken), local beef, and lake fish (the city is on Lake Trasimeno). The house wine is inexpensive and it's good, we had a charcuterie antipasto with house made spreads and sausages, and the homemade limoncello was perfect. Ma Ke Te'l Dico a Fa' is fantastic, but Castiglione del Lago is a gem most tourists will never find. That's kind of sad as the walled town center on the hill that overlooks the lake is gorgeous, but part of the magic is that the whole town is filled with some really great people who aren't jaded by a constant crush of tourists. However, there are a lot of really popular cities nearby, and many agriturismos. If you find yourself in one of them, make plans to eat here.

This Restorante/Pizzeria specializes in brick oven piazza and grilled lake fish and meat on the open fire. It is a favorite among truckers and tourists on vacation on Lake Trasimeno. It is a typical Umbro restaurant serving healthy quality portions with good service. In the summer months they have outdoor tables off the main road or air conditioned rooms inside. Since it is a favorite among locals I recommend reservations. My wife and our friends had made this a regular eating favorite. I high recommend this restaurant for good value and service.

We called at this Osteria for Pranzo just after we had arrived in C d L as it was close to where we were staying. First impressions were of a traditional small family owned restaurant with lots of pictures of the local area around the lake stretching back to the early 20th century. What followed was a meal where the ingredients spoke for themselves and were prepared simply and sympathetically by someone who obviously loves food. (like me) Roberto introduced himself at the end of the meal after I had commented on how good it was to his wife who serves up the food. We had quite a long chat about it although as our Italian is not that advanced we could not avoid the coccasional consult with Google translate. He explained about the rare breed pig (Cinta Sinese) he sources from the region of Siena inTuscany which has now been given DOP status. Forget bland, white (often dry) meat we have become used to when eating pork. This is completely different and delicious and a cross between Cingiale (Wild Boar ) and domestic pig. The animals are reared in the semi-wild and forage for sweet and bitter acorns, tubers and tuffles. The Starter platter of Prosciutto, Salami, Capo Collo all from this breed is outstanding and if served up by top London restaurants would probably cost a fortune We live in neighbouring Marche where salumi is also good but the rare breed of pork used here and the subtle use of fennel in Tuscan Salumi elevated it to something really special. The pork menu alone should make this place a must visit. Roberto also cooks lake fish, such as perch, persico and carp (the latter not really my cup of tea but , nevertheless well prepared and roasted with pork 'lardo' and fennel for those that DO like it) which we tried on or 2nd visit just before we returned home after our 4 day break.. I was surprised how quiet Trasimeno was (mid July) and even more surprised how quiet this restaurant was at lunchtime on a Friday. Given all of the above, the prices were modest and, this Osteria deserves a wider and bigger audience than it appears to have at the moment based on our two visits particularly with the produce on offer. Will certainly be back on our next visit. Cannot wait!Grazieeeee un saluto grande da Agnese,Roberto

Restaurant with garden. You might do in here cooking classes at the Cooking school Trasimeno
On every occasion when new people are introduced to this restaurant, they go back. The changing seasonal menu is a gastronomic delight. Whether the produce is of the land, sea or lake it is extremely tasty and wonderfully cooked. It is complimented by sensibly priced wine. The service is excellent. If I were to make a criticism, it would be that Francesca, the proprietor/chef, does not visit tables and therefore misses out on very favourable feedback.

This is (among other things) a great spot to take a lunch break when driving the A1. It's easy to reach, the food is excellent and it's cheap. We had good pastas (inc. vongole, as it was on the weekend) and tagliati.
