We took shelter from the rain to have a warming reception and lunch thanks to Andrea, Le Cose Buone’s owner. Ribolatta, TBone steak and dolce matched well by Chianti Classico from the village. Just what we needed before our ride back to Siena. Try it you won’t be disappointed.

We were recommended by our hosts to go to Mario's for dinner -and it was one of our favourite meals of our entire trip in Italy. It doesn't get a whole lot more farm-to-table than this! We had excellent fiorentina steak (raised on their farm) -the best we have ever had both as carpaccio and from the grill. That and their own Chianti wine were the stars of the show and excellent in quality. This is a home based restaurant served directly by Mario and his wife, and as about as authentic as an experience as you will ever get. Communicating was an adventure as we didn't know any Italian and they didn't know English but it was all part of the fun and we just went for the full set menu which was extremely reasonably priced for all that you got and the quality of it. I'm afraid if I rave too much about this place -the secret will be out! We would go back in a heartbeat! If you want some good steak and a real Italian experience, this is the place for you! Hope a return is in our near future!

A Tutta Birra

Reviewed By ciclistasignora

After a morning cycling the hills around Gaiole in Chianti, we needed something cold to drink and good to eat. Tutta Birra is set in the middle of Gaiole piazza with tables to sit out and enjoy the October sun. It is known for it’s meat menu but, not being a great meat eater, I enjoy their pastas, beautifully cooked by Antonio. A cold beer soon perked us up. From the chalk board I chose ravioli with ricotta and spinach, served in a light buttery sage sauce. Himself had the pici cacio e pepe, with just the right amount of pepper. The pasta here is very good! Two delicious dishes, enjoyed with a glass of white wine. Refuelled, we pedalled on up the hill.Grazie mille.
