With a long history dating back to before the American Revolution, it's not a surprise that Carlisle is full of historic treasures, including a church once attended by George Washington and a courthouse damaged by artillery during the Civil War. Despite this impressive heritage, the city is most famous for being Pennsylvania's "automotive capital," hosting ten annual car, truck, and motorcycle shows that are attended by a half a million people each year.

1794 The Whiskey Rebellion is a sustainable local downtown Carlisle restaurant which prides itself in sourcing the most eco-friendly products from an array of local farmers and distillers. The restaurant features over 50 American and International Whiskey's and an extensive craft drink list using no artificial sweetener's or mixes. All of our steaks are cooked on an open wood fired grill.
We recently had a business dinner at 1794 with a party of 18. Everyone's food was brought out in a well timed manner. Only one steak came out....a little on the thin side, and was med/well instead of med/rare; this issue was quickly rectified and the remainder of the evening we were well attended to but not hovered over. We hope to come back soon.

We were not impressed with this restaurant. Dry rubs don’t really give a barbecue flavor. They just tend to make it spicy. Besides leave a lot to be desired! We had heard good things about this restaurant but we’re left very disappointed. The staff seems to be a bunch of kids more worried about each other in their phones then the customers. There are if you were the barbecue places in the surrounding area that are much better and will get our business in the future.

It was good for breakfast the first time I tried it. I ordered the same Southwestern omelet today but it came with dirty silverware this time and was a huge turnoff. I thought I had found my new breakfast spot. The water or dishwasher stained knife on my bread I was trying to overlook until I found food stuck on the back of the fork.

Menu: Great choices on a short menu. Our 6 party diners had mussels frites, Flemish beef stew, and Stoemp Saucisse. The mussels main entree was over-the-top pot of mussels with a cone of French fries, which I believe two good eaters can enjoy. One had a salad with the appetizer order of mussels, which would have been a better choice for me. Dessert: Brussels style waffle with dark chocolate sauce and chocolate mousse seemed yummy. The beer menu is extensive, served in brand beer glasses, Three of us enjoyed the flight--4 5 oz choices.
Location: Convenient to the Comfort Inn Suites in downtown Carlisle.
Atmosphere: Bare tables adequately spaced to allow for conversation.
Service: Bit disappointed here. Order mix up meant one of us received her order of mussels early while all were served and I waited. Felt that the server could have advised on portions. Appreciated that she asked if we wanted separate checks.
No reservations taken.

Traveling through Carlisle on business, we stopped here for lunch prior to our appointment. Service was good and our food was served promptly. I had the tomato bisque soup which was very good and the shrimp basket consisting of good fries and large, plump shrimp that were freshly breaded and fried in-house and quite tasty but a bit oily. The atmosphere had a good vibe but visiting on a cold, snowy January day we found the restaurant to be a bit drafty with doors front and back that were both used with regularity.

The Gyoza was delicious. My main meal of shoyu ramen was lacking in taste. While the noodles were good, the broth itself was watery with little to no flavor. I would go again to try something else just based on how good the gyoza is though.

Found this by accident, but it will be our regular stop going north and south. Very friendly staff, good food, We both had steaks and they came with all the fixings. The salad was cold and the dressing fresh. It is a repeat visit.

Floors were littered with particles of paper products, not just under a table or two, the whole length of the dining room. Tea water was barely warm & not hot enough to steep the teabag. Cheese-covered streak was cooked until the cheese was brown instead of just melted...brown cheese? Even though I told them I was gluten-free, I was served french fries that were fried with other breaded items & told this at the time I was served...was later brought homefries to replace them. Waitress was polite & accommodating, but this didn't make up for unsatisfactory conditions of the restaurant.

First time in, I had a grilled chicken wrap. Imagine a grilled chicken wrap with actual fresh off the grill chicken and cheese gooeyness! So delicious! Today I had the Maryland crab soup and a slice of the "old-fashioned" pizza. The soup was loaded with crab and vegetables, and was absolutely delicious. The slice of old-fashioned was the best single slice of pizza I've ever eaten, bar none. I saw manicotti and meatballs at the next table....I'm eating that before I leave the area!
