This is the place where I always stop for fried food at the Plaza del Mercado. Excellent place for a $1 relleno de papa ( potato stuffed with ground meat), empanadillas, or others. A good place for a mid morning snack when buying fresh fruits at the Plaza del Mercado de Mayaguez. Very simple place, everyone eats their fried food standing in front of the shop. Eating healthy is important, but some of us have a craving for fried food (frituras) once in a while.

5. Firehouse Subs

My wife, my son and I went to Firehouse subs for lunch. We order three different subs. And we tasted the three of them. Great food although expensive for the size. The fries were not so good. In general, we were satisfied. Every time a person goes thru the doors it makes a strange and noise, not good.

Great sandwiches at a reasonable price. The service was not so good. The person preparing the sandwiches was also attending the service car, so he cant do both things at the same time. Needs more people for a good service.

After visiting my nephew at Universidad de Puerto Rico - Mayagüez (University of Mayagüez) my daughter mentioned she was getting hungry so we made a stop so she could get something (my wife and I did not eat). This is a fast food restaurant off of highway 2 near the Mayagüez Mall along with other restaurants of your choice. This restaurant only has outdoor sitting (which is common) but was very clean and plenty of trash bins and recycle bins available. She is vegetarian so she picked the "Two Tacos Vegetarianos" which she said was really good but the taco sauce could have been a little more spicier! The reason she did not give it "Five Stars" was because of the amount of plastic that is used for each person especially the foam plate which could be switched to a paper plate which is more biodegradable.

Been wanting to try this place for a while, when I finally did I was happy with my visit. Went during luncj and tried the Migas Mini Burgers, they are very good. Also tried their homemade cookies, they are delicious; made everyday and you will buy fresh pastries. The ambience is very nice and you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in the door. This is a pet friendly place, so if you want to bring your pet. I totally recomend this place. Have several choices from the menu, from breakfast to dinner. Will deffinitively come back many times, next I'm trying their breakfast.

Meson is popping up all over PR. I went with local friends the other night and was blown away by the variety and quality of this place. The sandwiches are superb, the price is right. You can sit down comfortably. This is a new star on the fast food scene. I also had the soup,a caldo gallego...to die for, authentic and definitely not out of a can. I willbe looking for the Mesones during my stay. They are alll over the island
