We have known Le Foudre through a few guises but most recently gave it a try out of season, in November - twice in three evenings! Hence ârecommendedâ.A lovely welcome from charming hosts (Christine?) and a warm, welcoming interior, full of characterAs well as à la carte, there are set menus available in the evenings as well as at lunchtime, offering excellent value. The food: quality provenance is clear all around, with the source of everything specified. One evening we both had lovely salmon with Minervois sauce, flanked either side by delicious starter and dessert. Second visit we both had delicious and beautifully cooked beef, top notch. Good wine list and the house wine, by pichet, was excellent as both the red and the white, representing outstanding value.Would we return? We did, two evenings later! Quality food, well cooked, in characterful and pleasant surroundings; might have given 4 stars but the lovely welcome and service translated to a 5 for us.

First time visit despite several visits to the area and probably ended up here as other places were closed. Very pleasantly surprised and would definitely come back. The quality of the food and wine was excellent and the only (small) criticism would be that the portions were too big (which is difficult for me to say ). Lovely pleasant service and we would highly recommend.

Restaurant traditionnel french Cook local production & vin cru minervois la liviniere
We hadn't been to this restaurant for many years, until we went with friends and family last Saturday evening. Apparently, it's changed hands since we last ate there - and it was a brilliant meal. Having said that, initially, I couldn't see anything on the chalk-board menu that I particularly fancied, until someone spotted the guinea-fowl which was part of the most expensive formule menu. Anyway, they allowed us to "mix and match. My starter was a gesiers salad (huge, could easily have stopped eating after that), but the guinea fowl dish was just lovely - served with a mushroom and seedy mustard sauce, and a few veg, absolutely perfect. The guinea fowl was perfectly cooked. Couldn't manage a dessert, not even the offered cheese or creme brulee, iles flottante or pannacotta - but our friends had a dessert each (and my husband had the cheese) and they thought they were lovely. Good portions, and all our food was delicious. The bill came to about just over 70 euros per couple, so not a fortune for a great meal. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty save for a few locals, but all of a sudden, it was packed with happy diners! hope they do really well here - we will definitely be going back!Bonjour j'ai ouvert le restaurant depuis 2009 il y a eu des changements depuis nous avons une carte papier également 8 mois par an mais nous préférons travailler à l'ardoise l'hiver pour travailler des produits de saison et des poissons d'arrivage Merci d'avoir pris le temps d'écrire un commentaire à bientôt j'espère Mr Plieu Jonathan gérant depuis 2009

Halfway between Beziers and Carcassonne, Homps is a small village along the road Minervoise. You must enter the village you find along the Canal du Midi and see the port and seaside atmosphere you will be immediately attracted to our terrace at the water'
We enjoyed our meal at La Peniche including the delicious local oysters which could not have been fresher.Tuna steak and cassolet for mains washed down with a carafe of local white wine all to be recommended. Friendly and efficient service complemented the experience.

I believe all produce is made on the premises. Their breads are excellent and pattiseries are to die for. Coffee and snacks also available.

Perfect example of a quaint country restaurant with the bonus of the waterfront location and the best lamb and fish we had in France, including a Michelin star restaurant the night before. Tranquil canal side tables indoor or under a grape arbor steps from the canal. Nice selection a of wines and all at a very reasonable price.Excellent professional service and quite busy on a hot August afternoon. Nicely kept building and very clean bathroom.Visited in September

Local restaurant set in a farmyard
Nice ambience sitting in the dinning room outside the farm kitchen. A range of local/regional style dishes on offer. The meals we had were average quality overall and prices were higher than we expected for the quality. A large terrine with salad to start was OK but too large, the meat main was a bit tough, and dessert was a bit hit and miss - my wife's made a good selection but mine was a chocolate tart that was too dry. When we asked for wine at the start the waiter asked us what colour and what quantity and we ordered a bottle of red - a mystery as to what exactly we would get. He produced a very good locally produced red which was a highlight of the meal. This restaurant would be OK with a group but making the right selections from the menu is vital.

Went here with friends this week while on a canal holiday. We didnât book a table but probably should have because we ended up inside instead of being able to sit on their lovely terrace. The food was delicious, we had various lovely meals including salmon, steak and duck. It was really good value. It is on the edge of Homps and right beside the canal. Iâd definitely recommend this if youâre in Homps but book a table.

Everything is fresh and nothing is frozen. The ambiance is friendly and relaxed. The service is fast and accommodating. There is a terrace in the summer. Chez modeste is just a walk from the canal de midi.
A short stroll from the Canal du Midi along a picturesque country road fringed with vineyards. We could choose to sit outdoors in a spacious courtyard or inside the invitint fresh white restaurant, light, cheerful, comfortable, modern. Such a contrast to the very old village where it is situated. Service was smiling and helpful, the menu of the day great value offering two choice of three courses. We each ordered alternate dishes and shared each course. A great way to savour regional dishes. We were not disappointed. Each dish was superb. Our waitress helped us to choose a local wine to match the food. Perfect too. We left with a small take home pack of tarte tartin which was delicious but such a generous slice that we could enjoy it the next day. Some extra wine too. It was a memorable evening. LOvely outdoor area ayrds. Many thanks for your kind words. We are so pleased you all had a good time and enjoyed the food.I made the tarte tatin that morning so Iâm really glad you enjoyed that!We hope you can come back again one day.Regards Paula, Chez Modeste

Restaurant traditionnel avec vue exceptionnelle sur le canal du midi. Toute la carte peut être commandée sur place ou à emporter. Accueil a partir de 17h pour les boissons et 19h pour le diner.
We like to support local businesses and restaurants as we travel through Europe. This place by the canal has a nice location and in truth it's nice to have a beer out on the terrace. We chose to have dinner here and to be honest it was disappointing for one course at least. My wife had a grilled prawn dish with vegetables that were a sort of saute potato/ veg mix and she was reasonably happy with it. I made the mistake of ordering the filet de boeuff. Not good on any level I've eaten any number of beef filets around the world and as arguably the most tender cut of meat it's hard to ruin. If this was a filet I'd say time to change the butcher, mine was as tough as old boots and while I asked for medium rare it was more broadly well done, but regardless it was so tough and chewy. I did mention it to the staff when paying my bill who apologised but that was that. Maybe I just made the wrong choice but how can that be so? Sadly for me it was poor and as a result the value also poor. Don't think I'k risk it again. As I told you, i did eat that 1 week ago and it was amazing. Unfortunately, your piece was trough ... I think because you mentioned it after paying your bill so I couldnât check or do something on your bill. Thatâs a shame that you didnât tell me before, you could see that quality and customer satisfaction are the most important thing in my restaurant. I hope this unfortunate story wonât happen again (for you and for me). Meantime, I wish you the best around the world. Best regardsLa table de Riquet
