Look at our view and you know this place is magical. Warm smiles, good food, cold drinks, wifi and comfy beds, what else can you ask for?! You will find a pool, an on site scuba school and a tan of note!! Go on an island trip, snorkel, and get ready to be amazed by 700 fish species, afterwards enjoy a BBQ on the beach. At the end of the day, order a sun downer and sit in the pool whilst watching the sun set over the magnificent lake, nature's show of colours as you have never seen. We live in Malawi about an 1.5 hour away from Cape Maclear. Home for 8 1/2 years so far. We can usually do day trips to the lake so we don’t often stay at the lake. But once in awhile (like for our 18th wedding anniversary!), we like to go to Cape Maclear for a weekend. We kept it low-key this year but it was still so special b/c of our stay at Thumbi View. The staff was professional and friendly. The lakeview room was comfortable, the pool was refreshing, the view was amazing and the ambience was both great for meeting new people or just chilling. Just wonderful! We usually like to do snorkeling at Thumbi Island or a sunset cruise but this time we focused on hiking, swimming and lounging. But what really stood out for us was the delicious food! The unique spice combinations of the South African-style Indian buffet night still linger memorably on our palate even a week later! Loved Noleen’s creative expression of Indian food. And I also personally enjoyed the veggie burger and Thumbi Sunset cocktail for lunch. And the grilled kampango (catfish) dinner with fresh salad for our second dinner was fresh and scrumptious! This catfish was done excellently! And last but not least, the snacks for sale are authentic biltong, including chili bites! It doesn’t get better than this!

The Norman Carr Cottage is situated on the southern lake shore of Lake Malawi, in the beautiful sheltered bay of Namakoma just 15km from Monkey Bay. A gentle and restful place where we promise you a memorable Malawian experience. You will be left with fond memories of this charming African country where time stands still, the pace is gentle and the scenery is stunning. Malawi has much to offer, sun drenched beaches, turquoise waters, abundant brightly coloured cichlid fishes, great for snorkeling and diving. Discover the magic of the open air aquariums which the southern lake shore is renowned for. We offer daily trips to various dive sites and remote islands for snorkeling and to experience the joy in the flight of the fish eagles
Loved this place. We felt like we were staying with old friends. Taffy and Leoni are the best hosts. He is funny, informative full of stories and enjoyable conversations especially with a few sundowners. She is warm and caring and works hard behind the scenes to make sure guests are well taken care of and comfortable. Rooms are spacious and clean and well designed with a nice sitting area and fabulous king sized bed with good quality linen and pillows- perfect after camping for a week. The boat trips are well worthwhile and good value for money to see the fish eagles and do some snorkelling. The staff are friendly and attentive and keen to help. There are plenty of wooden loungers on the beach with cushions brought to you by the staff so a great way to enjoy the beach. To top it off of course there is the sense of being somewhere special in Norman Carrs own place he built for some well earned R&R. Thanks for a memorable and fantastic stay and with sn unexpected pleasure of an encounter with ‘Pickering’ - perfect

I spent three nights at Mgoza Lodge in April 2022. It was the perfect place to relax along the shore of Lake Malawi. The food was fantastic, the views spectacular and the owner takes great pride in making sure his guests are well taken care of. I highly recommend this place at Cape Maclear.
