If you want a quiet drink and something to eat this is not the place to go. It is always busy. For me it is normally the chicken goujons, or a burger. If you are looking to watch sport, if it is a popular event then it will be on here. Great atmosphere, superb terrace over looking the square.

In the center of Lausanne, with one of the best views on the Geneva lake, the Brasserie de Montbenon offers a traditional, but contemporary cuisine, using quality local products. Apart from food and (a nice range of) drinks, the "B.M." also proposes event
This place is in a park (Montbenon Esplanade) and inside a historical building that holds cultural activities. It overlooks the park and lake and has outside seating. It was quite full at lunch time but they manage to seat the two of us even though we did not have a reservation. We ordered from the lunch manu (duck and a risoto) and it was all excellent. The service was nice, but very busy with the full house. The crowd included local business people, tourists, and apparently local friends meeting for lunch. I was very happy with my choice of restaurant and will go back when I return to Lausanne.

I love French brasserie fare and this place delivered. We had a beautiful table on the patio. I had the escargot -- swimming in garlic and parsley butter. Julie had the bream in a basque sauce and I had the veal Zurich-style -- small chunks of veal swimming in a creme broth. Very rich. We washed that down with a nice bottle of local pinot noir. All of this comes at a price, but it was worth it!

A local friend recommended this place, and we were not disappointed. We got a starter, the squidink pasta, a salad (Savannah) and two desserts. Everything was quite good. Although we didn't speak any French, the staff were super help and accommodating. Even though the restaurant was completely filled up, the service was attentive and efficient. We wish we could stay for the concert. If you like sweet cocktails, zombie is delicious!
