At the foot of the Swiss Alps lies Valais, "the valley." This fabled region is a year-round favorite, with spectacular skiing in the winter and superb hiking in summer. The Matterhorn, the Great St. Bernard Pass and Zermatt are the stars of the area, but glaciers, lakes, mountain paths, castle-churches and a wealth of resorts also beckon. Visit L'Hospice du Grand St. Bernard to see the animals who helped the monks rescue travelers or the Fondation Pierre Gianadda, Roman ruins that now house modern art.

Unique ... yet affordable Hotel Bahnhof is a traditional family hotel since 1902. It has a warm and charming atmosphere. The rooms have wooden furniture and floors, and some have a balcony with Matterhorn view. Bathrooms are private or shared. The new renovated dormitories are very populare. That’s the place to meet people from all around the world. Outside is a big nice terrasse with wooden tables, benches and Matterhorn view. Hotel Bahnhof offers free Wi-Fi access through out the entire house. The guests of Hotel Bahnhof can use a fully-equipped kitchen, with a coffee and hot chocolate machine. We don’t serve any meals. Next to the kitchen is a cozy living area, laundry facilities and a large ski / storage room with lockers. Hotel Bahnhof is 100 meters to the left of the main station square located. It’s a big white building with red shutters. The free ski bus stops right outside the hotel, where the Gornergrat train starts towards the ski slopes.
Budget place, but exceptionally clean and welcoming. Countless places to eat around the hotel an I was lucky enough to see the Matterhorn from my bed. Next to train station as the name implies so an excellent choice if you are in from the Glacier Express, for example, and departing in the morning. Will happily stay here again.

The world-famous Matterhorn, lovingly called "Horu" by locals, can be seen directly from Zermatt Youth Hostel. Every day of the year, the Youth Hostel offers a charming alternative for all those guests for whom a luxurious hotel room is not necessary to enjoy the Zermatt mountains.
It's my first time in a youth hostel as adult... We really enjoyed this place (location, property, staff). Breackfast is rich, they don't have eggs. I could even had chai tea: very unusual. Dinner was good. If you don't look for fancy, just go there!

A world first for the glacier village of Saas-Fee. Conceived in the innovative tradition of the pioneers of Alpinism and realised with an eagerness for breaking new ground, the hostel combines the typical laidback ambiance and low prices of a youth hostel with the exacting requirements of modern wellness and fitness facilities. Here contemporary architecture, easy-going hospitality, sustainability as a way of life and high quality aspirations make up an offering whose informal style unites guests from all over the world. Free WiFi is available throughout the building. Laid-back and relaxed is the motto when eating here: delicious menus, always freshly prepared, can be enjoyed either on the sunny terrace or in the restaurant with its magnificent view of the mountains. The cool lounge is the centrepiece of the hostel - the place to meet up with friends old and new for tempting Alpine tapas, refreshing lassis (fruit/milk drinks) or an aperitif around the cosy open fire.

This was a planned overnight stop on our drive from Cogne to Chamonix. There was plenty of space to park and check in was fine so we were soon in Room 202, overlooking the lake. Dinner was good but we were charged extra for desert on our half-board package which was a surprise. A bottle of wine starts at SF39 but it was enjoyable. Dinner is served in the downstairs cafe area but staff were aware of my wife’s GF requirements. Room 202 was compact with no TV or drinks making facility. Breakfast served upstairs was adequate and again, GF bread was offered to my wife. The overnight stop was approximately £250 with dinner and wine. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable experience.

Crans-Montana is one of the prettiest places in Valais. So the Bella Lui building, converted into a youth hostel, really lives up to its name! Bella Lui means «beautiful light» in the old Valais dialect – and it couldn't be a more fitting name. The former sanatorium is situated on a sun-drenched plateau and rewards guests with a unique view of the Valais Alps. Here you can choose from three sun terraces and enjoy a lot of daylight thanks to the tall windows. The large glass doors open outwards, effectively extending the living area onto the balcony. Guests can use the restored original furniture and take the lift with its mirror and wooden bench. Every day, the variety of outdoor activities delights bikers, hikers, skiers, as well as water and mountain enthusiasts.
Our family came to visit the Bella Lui Jugendherberge in Crans Montana for a week of skiing together with another family. The staff at the hotel was amazingly flexible and hospitable when we asked for alterations in our plans for the rooms several times. Always friendly and doing their best to help us with our requests. Both breakfast and dinner is served in the dining area with long oak wood tables, surrounded by large windows to let in the sunlight and beautiful mountain view. We found most of the breakfast components that we had hoped for, except boiled eggs and dark rye bread. But I guess that is because we are from northern Europe Dinner was usually well composed, tasty and good value for the money. The atmosphere is friendly but still serene due to the architecture and matching decor. The house itself is worth a special mention. Simplicity is the first thing meeting the eye, but the first female architect of Switzerland had a good eye and the rooms, materials on walls, the original lounge chairs, window colors, warm oak tree furniture gives you a feeling of home after just a day. And then you find a ping-pong table and baby-foot game in the basement. Great evening fun! We can really recommend this place for anyone that want good service and a special experience without spending a fortune.

A essayer!
