Castro Urdiales is a seaport of northern Spain, in the autonomous community of Cantabria, situated on the Bay of Biscay.

Stopped here for a drink and a snack, the barmaid was a little aloof, but the drink was fine, and the bar snack pinchos were tasty, even though they tasted like they had been out all morning and were maybe not so fresh anymore.Their drinks board had a good-looking selection of vermouths, and it was handy to get a drink, snack and use there loo.

This restaurant is good for late breakfast, lunch or dinner and the location is second to none. The locals will hang out here too, so be prepared for some noisy company at the next table. We loved the food: Lobster and lamb, cooked to perfection. And our waiter was extremely friendly and service-minded too. (Other junior waiters were not as good, but nevermind). If you stay in Castro for 2 nights be sure to have one dinner at El Marinero (and one at Arboleda also).

A nice dinner with fresh food (fish), a little bit different from the typical Spanish restaurant , a little bit more refined, with modern interpretation of classical plates (some would say fusion). Generous portions, I was offered more than a drink for free, the waiters were nice and competent, really extraordinary friendly.I really enjoyed this restaurant.

We ate the standard â¬25 menu which included unlimited wine. The first part of the starter was a mix of meats. We thought this was a little small - then the second half of the starter arrived - the fishy bit! Excellent. We then shared a mixed meat grill. Again well prepared and huge.Overall excellent value for locally prepared basic ordinary food served in a friendly family atmosphere.Well recommended at the price.

Elegant restaurant with panoramic sea view with yachts and Santa Maria church. We have seafood and fish from local sources, vegetables km 0, delicious paella y lobster rice, t-bone steakes and shoulder blade of baby lamb in our restaurant!
Absolutely delicious food, stylish, nice staff and family friendly. Very well located in the waterfront close to the town center. Seafood and fish are particularly fresh and exquisite, in most instances from local sources. The price/quality relationship is impossible to beat. Definitely a must try.

Location is good.service not ok and food not good.sat close to the Kitchen where the woman was criticising to the Chef about everything (we heard everything) she was wearing plastic gloves, Touching everything, reservation book, mobile phone and the food! Very poor service and Hygiene. The calamari dry and hard, the langostinos for 16 euro tasteless and hard as a shoesole... A shame

Been here several times for shellfish and octopus and itâs always the best! Everything is really fresh and very well prepared. Lots of variety ins shellfish and different styles of octopus. Ambience is casual but donât get fooled by that! The food is the best around!

This is a small restaurant so it is recommended to book. We went for an early dinner (by Spanish standards) so it was quite quiet. There was no menu and we were recommended the sea bass. We did not want any starters but the owner brought us a little taster plate of calamares which was superb. The sea bass was the biggest I have ever seen and tasted amazing. Before leaving we were given a couple of digestivos - a nice friendly touch. Donât go to Castro Urdiales without visiting La Arboleda.
