Guinness on tap! Friendly staff, good happy hour, reasonable prices. There are sports TVâs and a large bar. Seating also available at tables, but it is not a large place. Parking on the street only. Regular menu is average.

We ate lunch here after watching the July 4th parade. The family chose a range of food from the menu ranging from a toasted sandwich to a full roast beef dinner. The portions were generous and the food well cooked and nicely presented. The Plymouth platter (seafood) was great. My only criticism was that the cheese in the sandwich appeared to be processed and not real cheddar. We will go back another day, perhaps for dinner.

Porter's in the Forest is now a place where discriminating diners (golfers and non-golfers, locals and tourists) expect something deliciously different. Formerly the executive chef at high-end Casanova in Carmel, De Vivo calls his new cuisine "California
We went for an early dinner last night. Being a Friday night I was a bit concerned about not having a reservation but, as a trio of walk-ins, we were promptly seated. Porter's is a clubhouse restaurant at Poppy Hills Golf Course. It being still light out we were treated to a serene view of the golf course and forest. Looking at the menu we all were of a mind that we wanted more of a light supper. I asked the server whether he felt the appetizers would be sufficient for a light supper and he honestly shared that he felt that the appetizers were such for small bites to be shared. While not on the menu we requested if it would be possible to get Porter's hamburgers which one of our party had described as delicious. The server was quite accomodating and took our order for 3 cheeseburgers. The default is for the burgers to be served medium - but when two of us requested medium rare there was no issue. The burger was, as described, delicious. We each opted for a different cheese (provolone, cheddar and swiss). The burgers were of a very good size (enough for me to take 1/3 home) and cooked to perfection and topped with house smoked bacon. Served on good brioche-type rolls they came with a side of very good french fries. Most notably were the condiments that were served - home made smoky ketchup (very tasty), a horseradish aioli/mayo, regular ketchup and, for me, the piece de resistance - a very tasty onion marmalade presented for the entire table to share. The server was very accomdating in, as requested, providing a separate helping of the onion marmalade. The seating was very comfortable and the seating was spacious - allowing for ease of conversation without having to shout or compete against other dinings. The atmosphere is such that one feels very comfortable and relaxed. It is a hidden gem that could be appropriate for anything from a romantic dinner for two, a formal occasion, an informal meal - whether in jeans or a prom dress. It is on the expensive side (not outrageously so) but you certainly do get value for money. To give an idea of pricing - Burgers for 3, with a glass of beer and a root beer was $57.

Frankly, other than the beach--which is a great beach--the small city of Carmel is awful. Stuffed with art galleries of bland, over-priced work no one with any taste will ever buy, block after block of boring architecture, and almost nowhere reasonable to eat. As such, A.W.Shucks was a real find (recommended by a local shopkeeper when we were about to give up searching for spot where we could relax and eat dinner). It's a typical American bar; dark, plush, sports on TV, and generally tasteless beer. But the waitress was friendly and the food (we ate fish, meat and vegetarian dishes) was very tasty. So, if you have to stop at Carmel, stop here.

We stopped her with a group for my daughters birthday. Nice laid back comfortable place to eat with decent prices for great food. The male server/bartender was a wonderful and thoughtful person. He answered all questions, presented our drinks quickly and accurately and served our food with flair. Will go back. Thank you for stopping by for such a special occasion. I appreciate your compliments regarding our menu and especially our service. Our associates work hard to take care of each of our guests, and I will be sure to share your gratitude with the team. This is the absolute best place to hang out and have a bite and a drink after a round of golf. The burgers are excellent, could be the best burger in CA, and the truffle potato wedges are a great side with it. Their french onion soup is also above average. Expensive for bar food, but worth it. I haven't tried their steaks. Great service, woodsy and sporty ambiance. I always look forward to returning here.
