This was the fourth time to order take out, and we had previously been pleasantly surprised. On a Thursday evening, I ordered two combinations ($ 9.25 and $12.95) and carefully specified that we wanted whole beans and no cream on the burrito (#16). The woman with whom I spoke sounded very rushed so I asked her to repeat back. She then told me, almost parenthetically, that they were out of chicken tamales (my wife had ordered a taco/tamale combo) and had only pork ones. I arrived nearly exactly at the prescribes 20 minute time frame. Though the place wasn't busy, the woman was near frenetic and was totally overworked. I waited a full 5 minutes while she collected from table customers, answered the phone, and placed orders on the computer screen in front of her. She pulled the two paper carryout (no styrofoam) boxes from under the counter and placed them in a paper bag and handed to me with the top of the bag upright. When I got home, I immediately realized that she had turned the bag from sideways to upright upon handing it to me. All the food (beans, rice, entrees) had slid together. Not only was the food then unpresentable, it was stone cold as well AND, you guessed it, NO whole beans-refried as refried can be. The food, after 2 1/2 minutes in the microondas was fine but the damage was done. A little notoriety, fancy food management software, and an overworked front person transformed a plain looking but excellent little taqueria into a mess. Just looking at the face of the harried clerk and I knew the order would be screwed up. Caveat emptor of Mexican food.
What a Chicken is a very popular place to eat for local workers at lunchtime during the week and for families on Sundays. Parking space is unfortunately limited. Amusingly, this restaurant is right across the street from KFC! The food is cooked on an outside grill in front of the restaurant and it smells wonderful! The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. If thereâs a line for food, it moves quickly. The juicy, tender and FLAVORFUL chicken is absolutely delicious! My personal favorites are the chicken tacos but the two or four piece chicken plate with sides is also outstanding. The pork ribs are very good but we prefer the chicken. The homemade tortillas add to the enjoyment of eating here together with the free chips and an excellent salsa bar. Writing this review makes me feel hungry! We have definitely become regular customers for this wonderful small restaurant!

Good food though nothing that stood out. I had fajitas and they were fine, came with sour cream and guacamole which is always nice. Flour tortillas were good. Only negative were the chips that went with the salsa prior to dinner arriving....they were subpar. On the plus side, they have an IPA on tap which is wonderful.

Arrived in Petaluma and checked into our hotel. Looked for a nearby place we could walk to. Walked into to a neat and friendly place . Sevice was quick and very pleasant. Good menu with lots of combos and all sorts of main dishes .Certainly not fancy but really good food. Good sized servings and tamales and rice etc was very tasty Iced tea was very good and the refill was free . Some banter with the server and a steady flow of customers for both takeout and sit down . Wish we had a place like this in our town

Finally tried this place and am mystified by its popularity. We did not expect anything beyond routine neighborhood Mexican restaurant fare, but even by that standard, our dinner was terrible. My chicken fajitas were so dry they were inedible....and the kitchenâs attempt to compensate for the lack of flavor by loading on the seasoning mix only made it worse. My husbandâs tacos were similarly disappointing. Drinks were overly sweet and tasted of mix. Weâve had better, fresher tasting Mexican food at fast food chains.

Was recommended this place by former co worker. Some friends raved about great tacos, got with them and it was the same place. I got the tacos, highly recommend the guac with it. Bottomless chips flushes self control out the window. Great place, will be back again

Busy place and I can see why. Food is very authentic when you think of mexican food. Traditional flavors for those who know what authentic mexican is like, not all the spicy sauces that that can be associated with it. I had the Fajitas mix which was very good. Portion sizes are huge. I could have easily split this with someone. Will definitely go back for more.
