Things to do in Novato
If you are in a hurry, and near the Novato Post Office, stop by for a quick (it's cafeteria style, ready to go) The new owners from earlier this year take pride in their food, which is ready to put on a plate or in a to-go box. Unlike a chain (e.g. Panda Express) besides their ready to go hot food, they also have a regular menu that you can order from.

We like Chinese food. traveling in our motorhome, we have not had very good luck, however. This was takeout.Pork and Vegetable Potstickers? huge sodden lumps of dough filled with some kind of porky paste-like sugary substance. The vegetable ones were gooey lumps with some tiny pieces of carrot and celery, maybe a tiny bit of cabbage. Potstickers (Jiaozi in China) come in all shapes and sizes. In Japan, potstickers are know as gyoza and they were stolen directly from the Chinese. But the potstickers that are best (not to be confused with shumai or dim sum), whether from China or Japan, should have an almost translucence look and flavor and be packed tightly with ingredients (not loosely). Light frying on one side is okay, but the best aren't greasy at all. The sesame beef came in a container with no sauce, no vegetables, nothing except deep fried pieces of beef.....greasy and tasteless. In the bag, we found a container of black liquid with floating sesame seeds, and figured out we'd have to combine them to make "sesame beef." Except I have never had sesame beef anywhere in the world, like this. No scallions, no greens, no peppers, no hint of any vegetable at all. Just deep fried alarmingly dry lumps. The pieces of "beef" inside were so small that one might wonder if these were just deep fried lumps of batter. I have never seen sesame beef deep fried. Maybe I have been lucky up to now.The wonton soup was only marginally better. At least it had some veggies, not much, but some...four pea pods, four pieces of carrot, four mushrooms, some cabbage, and this was the large size. The wontons were filled with the same filling as the meat potstickers except without the sugar. The broth was a chicken broth, but so watered down that it may also have been a lightly seasoned vegetable broth as well. Very hard to tell.I see that this place has gotten some rave reviews and that's why I went there for take-out for me and my wife. I hope we went on a bad day. We gave up and made do with some leftovers in the freezer. The white rice was good and deserved a star.
Where to eat Indian food in Novato: The Best Restaurants and Bars
The restaurant changed its name quite some time ago. It is now called Bamboo Garden, so if you are looking for Shanghai cuisine, this is not it. They serve the more bland Cantonese cuisine. There are at least five different cuisines in China so it is difficult to rate one restaurant against another if they serve different styles of food. If Cantonese food is what you like, this is the place for you. The food is very good. If you have never tried Tomato Beef, you have a real treat in store. This is one of the best Cantonese dishes. You must try it. They do a really good job with this dish. The service is a bit slow but this is to be expected when they cook fresh. On the other hand, if Szechuan or Hunan is your style, then you can't beat China Village in Novato.

This used to be a good restaurant for business lunches and dinner takeout. The quality of the food was good, the prices were fair and the service was okay.Went there today for a business lunch for the first time in a while. It didn't go too well. The service was beyond slow & dreadful and the food was tasteless (same dish I've ordered many times in the past) and the only thing that remained the same is the price.I told my lunch companion, "I guess we can take this place of the list of where we eat lunch." He totally agreed.

The food was so bad that it immediately made my stomach turn. I had to use the restroom, and apparently it made lots of other peoples stomachs turn as well, because the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting with diarrhea sprayed all over the one of the walls. I will never step foot in this restaurant again, I have no idea how it's so popular.

Definitely the best Chinese food in Novato. Great shrimp dishes, and love the general's chicken and beef. Food is fresh! No second time fried food that I mentioned in another review. Lemon chicken for example is breaded, but not completely covered, so you can see and taste the freshness. We eat here exclusively for Chinese food in Novat.
