The Ramen Joint

Good ramen at a reasonable price. Reserve online, as there seems to always be a wait. Online reservation is easy and efficient via Yelp. Menu is very simple with few selections. No alcoholic beverages. Very limited seating in this small venue. Not even sure if they can seat 4 together. If yes, that would be the maximum. Fast, efficient service.

This place was very near our hotel so we gave it a try. You order at the counter and the food is brought to you at your table. Prices are quite reasonable - especially for the Los Angeles area.We ordered Asian BBQ wings which were delicious, some spring rolls - also delicious and a large beef bowl. This one wasn't really what we expected. The beef was kind of soft without a lot of flavor. We were expecting something like a soy or teriyaki flavor. This place is certainly worth a visit if you are in the mood for Asian food.

Kanpai Sushi Bar and Grill

I've never had terrible service at a sushi restaurant - until now. The experience was so bad it overshadowed any positives. I was highly encouraged to sit at the sushi bar instead of a table ("lots of room at the bar"), whereupon I was seated right next to another patron instead of any of the three seats available next to me. That was followed by a waitress dribbling soy sauce up my arm and sleeve. A long delay in taking my drink order (>5 minutes), then two waitresses coming by to take it within seconds of each other. Other parties arriving later were waited on and served before I got to place an order. The first part of my order was served to another patron, who then handed it down to me. The last part of my order came a good 15 minutes after I mentioned to the waitress that part of my order was missing. The food was good overall (except for the sloppily made and falling apart cucumber rolls). But really, based on this experience I would never go back.

Situated in Howard Hughes center which is under construction, it took us a while to find the restaurant but the food compensated for all our frustration in locating the restaurant. A special treat for happy hour on Sunday from 8-10pm. The price was so good, we ordered more food than we could eat. Mixed tempura, seaweed salad, spicy tuna salad, sesame chicken, gyoza, salmon sushi, albacore sushi, fire cracker, calamari karaage, spicy tuna roll, alaskan roll. We were so full after all the dishes. Not only the food was fresh and of good quality, and the portion was good size. I would definitely come back again, especially I joined the red mask club which will give me a discount of $25 after I spent $500.

As so many have noted, the food is both exquisite in taste and presentation. Several of the courses ranked among the best I have ever had. We also were very fortunate in that our dinner partners procured our reservation on the first try! I felt that the sake pairings weren't worth the price. They did not seem to accent the dishes the way a good wine pairing can -- though to be fair, I am not all that familiar with sake so perhaps it is my lack of experience. I also felt that the sitting should either be about a half hour longer or two dishes shorter -- we felt a bit rushed at the end.But in the end, the ambiance, service, food and presentation far outweighed the minor complaints and the experience was very much worth it.
