Driving from Bay Area to Sacramento via the back way, we came into Alamo and discovered this ageless cafe. Well, it is only 70 years. It has the feel of yesteryear and a traditional diner-style menu to match. It is so small, yet people crammed in and get served with a smile at the few little tables or a counter. Nothing fancy or romantic here. You can watch the cook (not a chef) at the griddle as he flips pancakes. Tasty breakfast treats, and we bet lunch is just as good. Prices are low. Refillable coffee is $1.50. I said to son Dan, "We have nothing quite like this in Sacramento.â Even the guest checks are old-fashioned hand-written forms. It is all so personal. If you appreciate American basics, Alamo Cafe is highly recommended.

I always enjoy eating at Sideboard. My favorites are their chicken salad sandwich made with delicious bread, fried brussel sprouts, peanut butter cookie, and their mac 'n cheese which is to die for! Their food is consistently delicious. The staff is always friendly. The only thing I dislike about this place is having to find a seat - it's hard to find a table even if you come early. There are some communal tables which is always a bit awkward and there doesn't seem to be many tables for just one or two persons. Often I've seen one person on a laptop sitting alone at a table for four and normally people don't want to share tables. So one star deducted for this. But it's the food that keeps bringing me back again and again.

This a really great breakfast and lunch bistro and weekend brunch is also served. The breakfast menu is extensive and just about everything is really great. The menu includes a variety of omelets and scrambles, pancakes, and Mexican entrees. For lunch add sandwiches, salads, and soups. The bistro bakes its own pastries and pies which are topnotch. The pies are excellent. Sunrise is very popular due the quality of food and service and there might be a short wait on the weekend, but line moves quickly. The servers are very helpful and efficient. It is located in a strip mall with a large parking lot.

Just our kind of place, a little gem, with counter service, booths, and tables that has the best food around! The quality of the food was excellent. No frozen food here. Fresh hash browns, real eggs and great choices. Pancakes too. Great coffee. A little hard to spot but well worth the effort. Good, friendly, fast and accurate service. Outside seating too.

Delicious comfort food to warm your heart and soul. I ordered a turkey sandwich and a salad for my lunch break. I went back to work feeling filled up and comforted.
