House Of Thai Rice & Noodle

It's the Wandering Yank here. Mrs. Yank and I love Thai food, and our search for excellent Thai food in the Sacramento has been frustrating. From Placerville to Sacramento to Roseville, we've had boring to good Thai food, but it's usually, at best, a step below authentic (Sophia's Thai Kitchen in Davis has been our favorite so far, but it's a bit out of the way for us. Also Boon Boon Cafe in Sacramento is a place we want to try again). But House of Thai is now at the top of our Sacramento-area list.We showed up at 5 on a Saturday and had a 15-minute list. A good sign, so obviously it's popular. It's small and bustling. Bonus points for having both Chang and Singha beer - Chang is my favorite but not common. We started with the "How We Rolls" appetizer - a delicious meal in itself. Mrs. Yank had the spicy basil chicken, which was pretty good, and I had the drunken noodles with pork, which was outstanding! It had very authentic Thai flavor. The excellent mango with sticky rice dessert was a great conclusion.Pretty inexpensive, decor is American Thai (you know what I mean if you frequent Thai restaurants), very nice service from a lovely Laotian lady, and great food. What more can one ask for? We'll be back...2 enthusiastic thumbs up!

I was excited to try this place after the great reviews but sadly the food was average overall and i had some issues. I walked in this place for the first time ever and it smelled amazing, so right there I was excited. I did a pickup order, and when I went to pick it up they told me they didn't have an item I ordered. Bummer, no phone call? You only had 20 minutes to call me to let me know. Okay, I order something else, but that's strike 1, that's just bad business. So now it's din din time and I open the food up and it looks and smells delicious so I'm excited again. First up is seafood pad Thai. The pad Thai is great, but the 4 mussels included are fishy tasting, and I stop eating them immediately. I smelled them closely and yes, bad mussels. The rest of the seafood in the dish is fine, but that's strike 2. Next tried the duck fried rice. The fried rice is great, although I don't understand why they put big chunks of tomato in there (it's not a summer salad!) and I love tomatoes. The duck is way overcooked and tough to eat. It's cooked with the fat, which is correct, but the duck itself is not. It took the luster out of eating duck fried rice for sure, strike 3.The yum Yai salad was the only winner to me, amazing flavors come together here between the onions and cilantro. You are going to need a breath mint after for sure but it's worth it. I'm sure there are some winning dishes here, but in not sure if I'd hit this place again. Definitely skipping the duck and seafood (shrimp is fine though) if I gave it another try.

We stopped in not knowing they had just recently opened. Man what a great idea. I had the phad thai with chicken, and it was awesome. The service was great, the food served quickly, and it was tasty! Stop in and try your favorite, I seriously doubt you will be disappointed. The prices are very reasonable too.
