Port Hueneme (/waɪˈniːmi/ wy-NEEM-ee) is a small beach city in Ventura County, California surrounded by the city of Oxnard and the Santa Barbara Channel. The name derives from the Spanish spelling of the Ventureño phrase wene me, meaning "Resting Place". Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo explored this area and the adjacent Channel Islands in October 1542. The town's name was officially changed to Port Hueneme in 1939 and was incorporated March 24, 1948.

I judge sushi restaurants by their sashimi, Anaba has the best. Their sushi selection is inventive and has something for everyone. The staff is super friendly.

The food was very average. The server was friendly, but a bit new and untrained. The guys behind the counter weren't particularly friendly and when our server asked them the couple of the questions we had (why is the super white only served seared), they looked aggrivated. We have some particularly good sushi restaurants in Colorado, so maybe we were expecting it to be super because it's on the coast. Also, we noted that the locals were definitely greeted much more warmly. That's understandable, but in a touristy area, it seems that strangers should be greeted with extra (fake or not) enthusiasm. We had the gyoza, super white pieces and a sashimi combo, all of which were decent, but nothing super special. With all the sushi joints in the area, we probably would not come back.

The food is outstanding and the prices are reasonable. My customer knows the owner and we received a bit of special attention but even without that this place is a keeper.
