California, United States Food Guide: 4 Contemporary food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Long Beach

August 28, 2020 Esmeralda Fenner

Find out what Contemporary restaurants to try in Long Beach. For some, a tour of the Queen Mary, docked here since its retirement in 1967, evokes waves of nostalgia for the days of the huge ocean liner with its opulent rooms, 1930s deco décor and teakwood decks. Others, particularly the younger set, are entranced by the spine-tingling haunted ship stories on the nighttime ghost tour. But for everyone, a visit to this floating hotel and museum is a must on any trip to Long Beach. At one time a less-than-appealing place to visit, Long Beach has transformed itself into an upscale tourist resort, with many waterfront attractions, including a new, state-of-the-art aquarium with a fabulous shark exhibit, two excellent art museums, charming shops, public golf courses, the annual April Grand Prix international auto race and lots of recreational activities along its eight-mile stretch of beach. Take the kids to the waterfront entertainment complex with rides and live performances or to the farming demonstrations at Rancho Los Alamitos. Feeling romantic? Cruise the canals of Naples (that's right, Naples Island in Long Beach) in a genuine Venetian gondola. One thing is for sure: tensions and stresses dissolve in this laid-back, friendly city.

I had an egg white veggie omelette with fruit and french toast. So good. I liked how there were a lot of menu options which allowed to tailor my breakfast just the way I wanted it. Friendly staff as well.

We stopped there twice to enjoy some drinks and food on their open patio. It's a feel good place. The servers were all delightful, with big smiles which added to the enjoyment. If you are only hungry for appetizers I highly recommend the Quesadia Barbacco. They make a good Mai Tai and Margarita too. The views towards Long Beach and the Queen Mary are excellent.

My wife and come here often just to have some of their unbelievable Artichoke dip. It is to die for! But their other menu options are fantastic as well. Great place to just chill, watch the people on the bike path and enjoy the ocean breeze.

This space was one of the premier banks in Long Beach back in the day and the inside is pretty impressive from all the wood finishes. The safe is right next to the bar. Good happy hour on drinks and select appetizers. Our party of four actually ordered through the appetizer and small plate items for our shared meal. We had the bacon brussels, the kung pao wings, and the mac n cheese with short ribs. All the items were very tasty, and I have to say the mac n cheese was some of the best I have had. Three cheeses, thick and gooey, and the short rib meat added a boost of protein and flavor to an already great dish. Four shared and still took half home!
