I've always admired the entrepreneurial spirit of Harris Ranch. They have maximized the benefits of their location and complete lack of competition in the area for the sort of service and product they provide. That said, from the customer's perspective, Harris Ranch delivers a premium priced product that doesn't quite live up to what the money should buy. A lack of competition in general makes a business less sharp and focused than they should be, and I think it shows here.We ate at the Horseshoe Bar, one of several restaurants in the complex. Naturally, you'll be ordering a steak if you choose this place. I had a 14 oz ribeye and my wife had a 6 oz filet. Her steak was just right. Mine was thin and overcooked. The vegetables were mostly garnish. The baked potato was fine. The service was indifferent, and the server seemed preoccupied. With tip & tax, drinking water and iced tea, the bill was $100. That's fine for a first rate dinner, but not very good value here. But, as the owners of Harris Ranch very well know, your alternative choices are fast food places that are common up and down I-5. So, take your pick!(BTW, I think there are also Tesla charging stations 15 minutes down the road at Kettleman City, and a number of mom & pop Mexican food places a short hop away in Avenal, if you're considering alternatives.)

Denny's

For more than 65 years Denny's has been bringing people together over great food. It's the place where people can relax and be themselves; where they can enjoy classic American comfort food and everyday value. 24 hours a day. 365 days a year. Here, you ca

Typical Denny’s food. That is good tasting, enough of it and at a reasonable price. The location was spotlessly clean inside and out. The male greeter/waiter was efficient and very courteous. Service was quick and the food good.. our only complaint was that the soup and the sauce on the zucchini was extremely salty. Good place, good food. I would visit again.

I didn't want fast food, which you can find in abundance on I-5, and I didn't want the Harris Ranch experience, so I drove into downtown Coalinga, about 12 miles from the freeway to see what I could find. Hey, reader, save your time and gas: There is not much there there, unless you like a really good split-pea soup, with bits of ham in it (better than Andersen's). Pork chops were really tough, and the vegetables were way overcooked. Atmosphere nonexistent.
