Loved this gem hidden in Glendale. The sushi is super cheap, super fresh, and the staff are amazing. We came here more than anywhere in the time I lived in LA. If you want cheap and different, order the salmon collar. Its usually really cheap, char grilled and served with lemon and a nice ponzu sauce.

I was in the mood for some tasty Asian lunch after a long hike and I was determined to not eat in the food court of the Glendale Galleria - this place was less than two blocks away, and what a find! For $14, I got the vegetarian lunch plate, which was a heaping pile of hearty vegetables (including kale, tofu, two kinds of mushrooms, cabbage, bok choy, and more). You get to taste up to 5 different sauces, and your meal order comes with two: I chose the slightly spicy umami sauce and the absolutely addictive ninniku sauce. (The ninniku is amazing: I learned it's basically an emulsion of extra virgin olive oil and garlic, so it has the consistency of mayonnaise, but is completely vegan!) The staff is very attentive (they check in frequently, and I saw them explaining the you-cook-it-yourself concept to two other parties who were obviously scared shabu shabu novices), the serving size is huge, and the whole meal was totally satisfying - a perfect pit stop for me!

This is my favorite Sushi Restaurant by far. The Ambience is nice and quaint, Friendly Staff. The Sashimi is amazing (Yellow Tail, Tuna, Salmon, Blue Fin etc.), absolutely fresh. The Rolls are ridiculous, they put their own spin on these sauces, it isn't always BORING spicy mayo sauce. Sexy Gal is my favorite roll, Midnight Fernando is also a great one, there are so many rolls to choose from as well as their sashimi selection. Order up some Sake or Beer to go with your sushi selection and your all set!

We ate here for the first time last night, and were quite impressed by the food and service. Service was speedy and attentive, food came out quickly. Ramen was very tasty, good portions, very nice pork belly, and good flavor to the soup-base. We agreed that the flavor could be a bit more subtle, but overall very good. Excellent gyoza appetizer too - light, not too greasy, very fresh tasting. Seating is on barstools and along a long central table or shorter tables near the windows. Overall a good experience - strongly recommend for a quick bite at lunch or dinner.

Went to Buko looking for basic Japanese food: some sushi, tempura, teriyaki, etc. We were not disappointed. The combination platters give you a lot of food at reasonable prices. Very prettily plated. I had the nabeyaki udon, which was good but just a little salty. The restaurant is small and cozy. It appears to be family-run (not sure about that). Service was very good. The only improvement would be if they could turn up the A/C a little. It was a bit warm in the restaurant the evening we went there.

My best friend and I try and get together once a month. This month we chose âThe Americanaâ. For lunch we decided we would eat at Katsuya. When being seated outside I noticed the cushions at the tables were not the cleanest. The second thing I noticed was a wrinkled menu when I opened it. I was a bit surprised considering this was supposed to be a classy restaurant. We started off by ordering two glasses of wine. For lunch we ordered crispy brussel sprouts, ramen and spicy tuna on crispy rice. I requested no jalapeños on the spicy tuna. We found the crispy brussel sprouts to be good but not the best we have had. I was disappointed in the presentation and flavor of the spicy tuna on crispy rice. Boring all in all. Iâve head better elsewhere. My friend enjoyed her ramen. The service was mediocre. After tip we each paid $41. I thought it was a bit pricey for what we got. Overall neither one of us were impressed and would not return when visiting âThe Americanaâ. It's disheartening to read that this experience has jeopardized your future loyalty. We strive to make every aspect of our guests' visits fantastic, and we are truly sorry we fell short. Our leadership team would be grateful for the opportunity to learn how we can get you back in here for a 5-star experience, so please email [email protected]. Thank you.

Mori has told me that he and three other Japanese teppanyaki chefs were working together on 44th Street in Manhattan in the middle to late 1960s .... and I know that he is telling the truth, because I ate in their restaurant several times while living and going to graduate school in New York."Present at the Creation" ... No, not of the State of Israel, but at the beginnings of what was to become known today as the Teppan Grill "Show Time Experience" of Benihana, Shogun, Banzai, etc. etc. with flashing cleavers and knives, juggled woodensalt and pepper grinders, shrimp appetizers flipped across into patron's mouths, and bantering chefs who would be equally at home ... in most instances ... as a warm up Lounge Act in Las Vegas.Indeed, one of the "start up" four chefs on 44th Street was none other than "Rocky" Aoki ... who took the concept and ran with it, and eventually found himself a very rich man with the large chain of "Benihana" restaurants. Unhappily, "Rocky" took the money and bought one too many expensive pastimes ... a high speed racing craft which he was piloting at high speed took it on itself to violently upend itself and "flip" "Rocky" up and out of the cockpit ... like a shrimp off a steel spatula..., with disastrous results for his back.Fortunately, however, he recovered. And out on the West Coast, Mori soldiered on with the Teppan Grill "Show Time Experience", eventually himself landing at the corner of Stocker Street and Central Avenue in Glendale. The food is good ... actually, very good, for what it is. The chefs ... who may range from Guatemalan to Honduran to generic Hispanic to, now, occasionally Asian ... all rise to the occasion to indulge their "inner 'Ham'" and put on a good show. Kids love it, and so do the adults, and, let the adults with the kids note, there is a full bar. "Kampai !!"The ambiance is a tribute to how much deferred maintenance you can stretch out over the years, and, unlike Mori himself, it really shows its mileage lines. The ceiling Is very high, and the restaurant is vertically and visually divided into the lower and ground level section ... which is a friendly, warm and "pub like" seating, grilling and eating area ... and the higher level which disappears upwards above the laboring ventilators and becomes simply "industrial warehouse fixtures sort-of- techno-modern" until it vanishes out of sight into the mist of fat globules which saturate the air.Mori - San might invest in some new ventilating equipment ... but, "Hey !! If it ain't broke (at least not yet !) don't fix it beyond buying more duct tape" ... and the folks still keep on coming. On the whole, highly recommended. In the entry area there are pictures of Mori with Elvis Presley, Mori with Muhammed Ali, Mori with ... well, you name it. And there, greeting you, is Mori himself, friendly, greeting you warmly, a piece of living history years removed and miles away from the early days on 44th Street in the "Big Apple".One reviewer said, "It reminds me a lot of Benihana." "Well, it should. The reverse is also true. Now, about that Onion Volcano on fire in front of my seat ...Bulldog 1

From soup to dim sum to king crab legs, all was fresh and plentiful. Add the sushi and the clams and oysters and you have an invitation to leaving stuffed. The price is right and the service abundant.

I ordered the dinner plate that had Calif. sushi roll, tempura shrimp with tempura veggies, small salad, steam rice, beef teriaki.Plus, miso soup. You can choose any items you want. I am only showing you what I chose. My friend ordered totally different foods. Bought it to go. My friend's cat likes to eat the fresh cooked shrimp. She likes to toss it up in the air and let it drop in her mouth. True story. lol.

Our favorite stop on way back to Pasadena from Burbank airport. We love the little restaurant. The fish is very, very fresh, cooked perfectly (not over done) and seasoned just right. Served with rice and cold slaw. I usually get the sword fish with Cajun seasoning, but every fish is excellent. Paper plates, plastic silverware, small tables, usually full with quick turnover. You go here for delicious fresh fish, not the atmosphere. For personality and atmosphere go elsewhere but expect to pay 250-300% more for quality that may not be as good.
