Food was very good as a takeout but dining at the restaurant was a big disappoinment

When Michael and Janet Verlander rented the shoebox-sized storefront at 1522 North Main Street in Walnut Creek in May of 1977, they had no idea that 38 years later, it would have become the East Bay's premier wine and food destination. It started as a del
We arrive late and we leave after the closing hour. However, we never felt like they were pushing to leave. Indeed the waiter was super nice. He recommended a very good dishes and the artichokes were simply perfect I appreciated the wine too,but I didn't like the tiramisu. I expected more coffee in it. Overall the experience was very good. Few times I feel like in an authentic Italian restaurant

We eat here occasionally when we want a reliable place for an Italian meal. A relatively small restaurant located in a not upscale strip mall, the restaurant itself is quite nice. There is a decent wine selection; I had the pinot grigio that was delightfully refreshing. For dinner, I had the lobster ravioli, one of the specials for the evening. It was quite good; served in a creamy sauce, it was full of lobster flavor and the meal was quite satisfying. We had the tiramisu for dessert. It was delicious, but I found the lady fingers to be a bit on the firm side, not spongy like it usually is. The service was good; friendly and efficient.

We went there twice while visiting the area. The first time I ordered the carbonara and a salad. The carbonara was the best Iâve had. The second time I ordered the tomato basil soup. Omg what a great soup. They put croutons in it also and it totally adds to the flavor. For dinner I ordered a chicken fettuccine type dish but wasnât called that exactly. It was so yummy. I did have a chance to try there pizza also but the pasta is way better but the pizza isnât too bad either

Rocco"s Ristorante & Pizzeria opened in 1999. It is a local favorite and was "Voted Best Pizza in The East Bay" in the Contra Costa Times Readers Poll! We are a family owned and operated restaurant and serve everything from specialty pizzas to fresh pasta
Very authentic Italian style pizza; plenty of different styles and sizes or even a 1/2 - 1/2 (different choice like salami & mushroom on one 1/2 and ham & pineapple the other 1/2).Very friendly service and knowledgeable. If the big screen TV's are now there you could almost think you are in Italy.

Not many small local deli/sandwich shops around these days. Lots of deli items--salads and such, though the sandwiches take a back seat to Canesa's in Clayton. We have been buying their potato salad for parties here for decades. Good service.

We4 went to Fiore Tuesday evening, we walked in the door and waited a long time to be acknowledged and seated. Once seated we were given menus and the ignored. No water or bread was offered and we noticed that people who came in after us were being taken care of. We got up and walked out at that point. We had eaten there before and enjoyed it which is shy we returned. They weren't very busy, fewer than half the tables were occupied.

The setting is first rate, especially during the East Bay's extra long outdoor season. It's marvelous to sit outside on a warm evening with the relaxing ambient lighting, happy families all-around, and people playing Bocce Ball next door. Having a brewski or two and some Za. Life is good. With Mt Diablo and East Peak towing behind Skipolini's Pizza in Clayton it's probably as close to the feeling of being in a "mountain town" as we have in the East Bay. Yep, 5 stars for that.Ah, but the pizza. It's only 3.5 stars. It used to be 4, even 4.5 stars but the last couple of years the amount, and maybe even the quality, of ingredients has been evaporating. My reference pizza at every pizza joint is extra cheese, sausage and mushroom. The single variable is roasted garlic. And I'd be derelict in my duties if I didn't also use as my frame of reference our favorite pizza place, which is located between Walnut Creek and Clayton. The pros of Skipolini's Pizza. The crust, it is excellent. The toppings taste very fresh and you can see that they are through the glass into the kitchen. The sauce is very good, not too sweet, a sin which mars to many otherwise good pies. Our latest pizza, as usual, was cooked well, may just a minute too short but darn close to right on. The cons: lack of cheese. An EXTRA cheese pizza had what most folks would clearly say was a lack of cheese. No excuse for this one. The mushroom and especially the sausage toppings were definitely on the light side. Sausage itself lacks flavor. I completely understand that most pizza places skew towards kids and blander fair but the sausage was really plain. Value. Not a lot happening here. A large pizza was about 30 bucks and insult to injury; it's not that large.Salads are good at Skipolini's and I have tried most of them. Like the pizza sizes, the portions are none too generous however. The pizza at our favorite local place, in comparison, has way more cheese and the cheese is more flavorful. Plus our favorite spot's pizza includes much more flavorful sausage and a more generous helping of mushrooms. The crust at our favorite spot has better texture but not quite the taste of Skipolini's crust. And Skipolini's sauce is a touch less sweet and probably better. You get a lot more bang for your buck at our favorite place too. I will also mention that the food at the Walnut Creek Skipolini's location is very similar to the Clayton Skipoliniâs but neither Walnut Creek Skipoliniâs nor the location of our favorite spot comes close to the outdoor setting of the Clayton Skipolini's. Go for the location, stay for the pizza?

We were immediately seated for our reservation here in this comfortable establishment. The 3 critical elements of a great restaurant experience were quickly confirmed, with good food, nice atmosphere, and great inconspicuous service. We love this little community of Clayton and this restaurant is one of its centerpieces.
