This is an upscale restaurant for Indian food. Certainly the best among the 5 different Indian restaurants I tried in Milpitas. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The portions are generally large, it would be wise to plan the order; else you will end up packing the leftover. The restaurant serves drinks, has a good bar. The ambiance is nice and I felt relaxed. Will sure come back here whenever am visiting the San Jose/ Milpitas area.

I had a pretty good meal here during a recent stay at a nearby hotel. The food was tasty, and the menu has pretty good variety. Portions were just a little smaller than some other places, but reasonable. The venue is small but comfortable. One odd thing was that when I paid by credit card, the ap they were using didn't seem to have a way to add a tip - and they didn't seem particularly bothered by that.

I ordered a Chicken Tikka Starter, Mutton Masala, Pilau Rice & Naan Bread for a main course. All food came at the same time, the Chicken Tikka was cool, tasteless & chewy and the Mutton Masala was tough lamb served in a luke warm gravy. The rice I got was a full portion of Plain Biriyani. I complained, but was told that is how we serve the food here. If you are looking for a tasty Indian meal - avoid this place. It is awful, really, really awful and they have no respect for tourists: I am from the UK.

We went to Saravanna Bhavan This is a newer location for them. Their dosas and Mango Lassis were very good. Service was good. This is a smaller size restaurant for them; their restaurant in Fremont is larger.

We came here for lunch. The food was very good, but there were not a lot of choices on the buffet. Of course there were vegetarian choices, but I am accustomed to seeing more in an Indian buffet. The service was very good. The most impressive part was the banquet hall which was large and beautiful enough for a wedding reception or any other special occasion.

Most Indian restaurants around here seem to offer northern Indian food, or mixed northern and southern Indian food. This place offers western Indian food, from around Mumbai (in Marathi state). Although the side dishes are similar to other parts of India--raita, gulab jaman, roti, sambar, it's the main courses which make this place different. I can't pronounce any of them, but the hosts will explain things and make suggestions.

The host was very unfriendly and did not greet us. When we walked in he said "what do you want?" They should have put "self serving" in big letters in front of the store and not on a small white board inside the store so that new customers would not be confused. Once we ordered our foods, the waiter did not tell us which dish was what so we had to figure it out on our own. One of our dishes was butter chicken, and when we took a bite of it, the meat was cold inside. They did not utter a single word while serving. We were left to wonder where our next dish was because they never said it's on the way or not. Overall, it was very unfriendly and unprofessional but I guess the inexpensive price spoke for itself.

While Tirupathi is a gem on its own, Saravanna Bhavan and Sri Venkatesh are still ahead at #1 and 2 respectively. The Saravanna Bhavan chutneys and sambhar continue to be the best along with their idlis. Tirupathi has some unique items on the menu that are not available at the othe rtwo restaurants. Prices are all comparable.

This place has been open for less than two months and seems to be very popular. For lunch they serve "table buffet". The waiter first provides the menu showing all the items they plan to serve. You can pick and choose whatever you want and the food is brought to your table. You will have the same waiter, so a bit of consistency is there. We tried all the items on the menu and all of them were very good. The place is very big. Looks like an office area converted into a restaurant. On one of the walls, they had a big painting of Great Wall of China. I found it odd, but I guess it's not a big deal.I highly recommend this place at least once to give it a try. The table buffet served during lunch is expensive, so go there with an open mind. Our waiter mentioned they have a la carte during dinner, so that could be another option.
