Great China reopened at 2190 Bancroft Way on the corner of Oxford in Berkeley two years after a fire destroyed their Kittredge St. location in 2012. It is only a block away from the original restaurant and has a more contemporary feeling without the crowded tables or any stairs that the original building had.The menu is similar to the original with many of the popular items still available. We often order the Double Skin and Peking Duck..... both are recommended. Other selections that we have tried are very good to excellent.Service is usually very good and attentive. The restaurant is well maintained and clean. It is a James Beard Outstanding Wine Program Nominee and a Michelin Bib Gourmand. This restaurant is one of our favorites in the East Bay... we sometimes travel from the South Bay just to eat at this restaurant.

Peking duck, âDouble skin,â seafood soup - simply delicious, amazing food. Iâve never had Chinese food like this before. Flavorful, fresh, and light. My friends told me about this place a long time ago, and I finally got to go with them. They went early to stand in line before 5 pm, when they open for dinner (Saturday; they donât take reservations for small groups). We got a table, and we (well, they) ordered quickly - and the food was ready quickly too. Very efficient service. But the food is the highlight - simply wow. Beautiful space too - modern and spare. Full bar.

We visited on a Thursday night with a friend who lives in Orinda and were pleased with the food here. We ordered mostly Sushi and the Sushi was fresh and tasty,. Seaweed Salad was good, Loved the squid skewers and cooked Scallops. Gindara, Hanachi, Albacore, Unagi, and king salmon sushi were all tasty. Good place and busy.

We support our neighbors and local farms by offering fresh, organic, healthy ingredients. Our chicken is organic free-range, our beef is natural & organic and our seafood is sustainably caught & delivered fresh. All our desserts are made fresh daily in ou
Food is ok but, when the sun is setting, it shines onto the huge mirror against the wall. If you are seated at the mirror, the guest facing the mirror is in extreme misery, we gulped down our average food, paid our bill and ran out. No hostess or manager to talk to and no offer of help from the server. I wouldnât return

This place has a hard time managing the crowds and popularity. We spent 30 minutes on the phone trying to get through to order some food to go. Once at the restaurant, it was the usual noise bomb, people shouting instead of having conversations. Lots of people waiting outside for a table. The food is OK.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to this small, but special place. We arrived as it was opening, and were lucky enough to get a table early on a Saturday evening. The server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and willing to give advice when sought. Everything was delicious...we shall return.

This was a nice experience for our family. The menu was varied (lots of sushi rolls, sashimi, bento boxes, etc.). The restaurant was very clean, service good (even though we were there when it was very busy) and the food freshly prepared. The tempura was light and fresh. Will definitely go back.

It's a nice clean family owned Chinese place. We do the take out and the food is ready quick and the host is always very friendly. They are closed on Mondays. Parking is easy. The food doesn't taste over spiced or too spicy. They have good soups and their salt and pepper calamari is my favorite. Their specials are typically good too.

This was an excellent place a couple years ago; I recently had the opportunity to go back for lunch and it was totally different. We arrived several minutes before the friends we were meeting there and were offered menus and service then but told the waiter we were waiting for our friends to arrive. When they did, about 5 minutes later, there was no sign of service and we had to search the waiter out. It wasn't like the place was overly crowded; the guy was just hanging out inattentively. We ordered a couple of the lunch specials. They took a long time to arrive and were somewhat cold when they did. The food was really mediocre. Hot tea was also served luke warm.I don't know if the same people still run the place but I have to say I was seriously disappointed.
