Food quality here tends to range from good to excellent! The Kung Pao chicken, Thousand layer pancake, half roasted duck and salt and pepper jumbo prawns are terrific! On the downside best to stick with pick-up because the servers have very limited English and service can sometimes border on typical rude behavior.

Probably a bit more authentic Asian than many places. A big menu that was biggest on hot pots. Our food was a bit on the expensive side for what it was, not that tasty, and nothing special. The restaurant was absolutely full, including the outdoor tables on the canal, so clearly it's very popular. I cannot see why. In an area that is chock full of a wide variety of Asian restaurants, including several in this same shopping center, this one simply doesn't stand out in my opinion.

This place is not the best buffet around but it's certainly not as bad as some people complained about. We came here on a Saturday to treat some family members for KBBQ experience. It was our 1st experience dining here. Walking in right before their opening hour, slightly before 11am, we were the 1st few customers. The restaurant was clean, huge, and very nice! It's a great place to hold a celebration or to bring "fancier" friends here or to hold a "fancier" gathering. The place looks grand for a bbq+hot pot place. You need to decide on either you want to have hot pot or bbq for the whole table though. They have a buffet, self-service section for the sauces, condiments, side dishes, desserts (various mini sweets, asian sweet soup, fruits, jello), soft-serve cream, and sushi rolls!!!we were impressed with the sushi selections. We opted for the bbq and tried the beef tongue, thinly sliced briskets, sliced beef belly, spicy pork belly, steak, galbi, spicy salmon, baby octopus, LAMB (this was the star)...and several other cuts. We were happy with the flavor. Yes, Gen has more selection, but here you don't have to wait! And there are enough variety to please your appetite. If you get a booth by the window, you can have a nice view of the lake too! Very nice.Service was pretty good, friendly, and they didnt limit ud as to how many different types of meat we ordered at once. Certainly see ste our heart out. The price point is slightly higher than Gen, but I felt that I had a more relaxing time dining here since the place is not as busy and they never rushed us. A bonus, you can make a reservation on yelp if you have 4 or more people. We will certainly come back :).
They call themselves a "Gourmet Chinese" restaurant. The food was good, the prices right and only one block away from the Hilton Garden Inn in San Mateo.

Worth listing for other travelelrs in vicinity. Excellent dishes.
Great location and good food. The variety offered was plentful and the food was good. I had the Bibimbap. It was a huge portion. The service was also very attentive. The only minor negative is that they do not accept Amex which I use when for business trips.

Top of line sushi located in downtown San Mateo. Sitting at counter is best, where you can talk directly with Sam and see daily specials posted on the wall. Always very busy, so reservations are recommended. Always keep track of your orders, if you make multiple orders throughout your dining; staff does not give detailed bills. Environment is very basic, and a bit noisy. Sam's sushi has been always consistently excellent.

We were a family of 4 who had dinner at Cooking Papa. We had several very nice dishes including Peking Duck. Some of the best Chinese food for a long time. The place was very crowded and popular. Very expedient serving. Recommended by Michelin since 2013. Absolutely worth visiting.
Where to eat American food in Foster City: The Best Restaurants and Bars

This place is always full and the old adage about observing who actually patronizes an ethnic restaurant is supposed to be a clue about its quality. So I always see a mostly Asian American clientele there. However, neither the food nor the prices have ever thrilled me. I suspect Chinese food, like pizza, is one of those cuisines for which your taste is founded on what you liked growing up. This isn't my particular style, and I feel that there are other Chinese restaurants all over the area that fit my taste profile better. That said, the service is OK and there is nothing wrong with the food, it's just average. It could well be that this fits a particular Chinese regional style and that I'm just not into that specific palate.

I have been coming here since the place opened. I have known the owner for over 21 years. The place serves very good food, at prices & speed that can not be matched. The two item lunch special can NOT BE BEAT. This is must try spot.

Each time I visit, which is infrequently, the food is consistently tasty, very nicely presented, and cooked to your desired level of spiciness. Very good service, nice decor, plenty of parking outside in this little strip mall. And if you're there in the daytime, a walk on the Foster City levee across the street is recommended too. I wouldn't say the portions are big, though. It takes at least a couple of dishes to fill you up, but not excessive amounts necessary.
