We liked that they have an 'A' rating posted in the front window. The decor and seating are tasteful and clean. My husband had a Negra Modelo, and I tried a Margarita on the rocks. It was not as sweet as I like, but good, and not weak. Bathrooms were okay.
The dinners come with a choice of soup or salad. We chose the albondigas meatball soup, which was very good -- spicy, and warm, very filling.
The carnitas were good. I had combo #8 enchilada and tamale. The sauces were good, and rice and refried beans were fine. The tamale was a bit too much dough -- it was the same size as the enchilada.
We had very good service, from the owner and two waiters.

Despite high hopes based on the TA reviews, we were disappointed with the poor service and lackluster ambiance. As has been mentioned this is a family run business with little outside help. We found our server to be running from table to table, and if you had an additional request you would have to shout it at her as she ran to the next table, or to the frequently ringing phone, taking the take-out orders (customers who avoid the in-house service issues). Our dinner took forever to arrive, and worse, our drink order arrived even later.
The food itself was very good and plentiful, but even so, our overall experience was only so-so.

Foxy's, is at our municipal airport in Cali City, CA. It's a nice quiet place to get away, get a good meal & still get home without the out of town drive once you've stuffed yourself. And stuffed is what you can do if you wish, especially on Friday Nights.

We stayed in California City for the night and had a hard time finding something other than fast food. The hotel suggested West Best and we were not disappointed! The prices are reasonable, the food was good and they deliver.
Pizza is on the thicker side and you can easily share a 12 inch with your chosen pizza partner. It was covered in toppings and was cooked perfectly.
Delivery guy was quick and friendly. Great little place.

On a recent trip to Death Valley, we stopped at the Coyote Café in California City, CA for lunch. This café is located in a small strip mall on California Blvd and is just a short detour off of RT 14 just north of where RT 58 crosses. The café has a good variety of your basic café offerings and the service was friendly and efficient. If you are looking for a quick stop and a good meal when you are in the area, this is a good choice.

I stopped in here about 3 months ago. I needed a review with negative stars! No good at all. Now today I saw a banner sign saying the management had changed. What the heck, I'll try them again. WOW! What a change Good Food and better prices. Service is still a bit slow but I'm sure that will change. Stop in and give them a try. I think you be happy.

We were heading to Barstow after a week+ at Death Valley, Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia NP. Cut across thru California City to get to Barstow and had a fantastic meal here. The tortilla soup was incredible as were the cheese, chicken and beef enchiladas. Prices were comparable to what we pay at home (Iowa) at our favorite local Mexican restaurant, service was above and beyond. Doubt we'll ever be in this area again, but if you are, you need to make a stop here!

If you happen to be stuck in CAl City please give the Golden Bamboo a try. You will be seated quickly and given a very full menu. All things I have tried are wonderful and the prices are very good. The restaurant shares the location with the only cocktail lounge (or bar) in town. Ice cold beer and all the cocktails are available.
Give them a try and you will not be sorry.

Stopping here for picnic supplies, sandwiches and cool drinks, we found service mediocre at best and coffee as undrinkable. Sandwiches, nothing more than one expects from a common gas station. Somehow, in this extraordinary part of the world, we expected better. Perhaps a level of competition would help!

If your stuck in California City and hungry for pizza this is the place to go. The pizzas are usually very good and I have had two pasta dishes as well. The service is usually just as good as the food. These guys really try and it show in the quality of the product they serve. They are take out only and also deliver. Give them a try next time you are stuck In Cal City.
