Rifugio della Rocca

The Rifugio della Rocca, nestling below the ancient castle at Rocca Calascio, offers a characteristic restaurant and bar, and the "albergo diffuso", a hotel whose lovingly restored rooms and apartments are distributed in various buildings in the village. The hotel also has a dormitory that can sleep groups of up to 16 people. Bookings can be made all the year round, and you can visit the Rocca (castle), the octagonal mountain church, the beautiful medieval villages in the district and the mountains of Gran Sasso. In the neighbourhood you will find good climbing sites, footpaths and routes for mountain bikes in the National Park, and cross-country and back-country skiing areas are on hand. Throughout the year the Rifugio Della Rocca organizes classical music concerts, in collaboration with maestro Orazio Tuccella's Officina Musicale ensemble, and literary and scientific lectures.

It's a LONG and winding road that leads to this castle!

What a wonderful experience this is! We only stayed one night as they were closing down until ski season, and after a very busy summer. It did take forever to drive there from where we had been previous (in Rocca San Giovanni, Chieti). This included breakfast which was all delicious and an abundance of food too. We also ate dinner which was excellent, and traditional. The room was so nice, it really took me back in time, even though the bathroom is modernized. There's a beautiful fireplace that I'm sure they use in ski season. It must be a glorious place to stay in the winter months and I'd like to experience that. We hiked around the first afternoon there (wear good shoes!), then had a relaxing evening talking to other visitors in the pub. Sadly the other places were closed already for the end of the season. This is not a big place, and there's probably not a lot to do, but bring a good book and you'll love it, or take your skis come January. I'd gladly go back but when tourist season slows down (usually Sept). Since it was near the time when they close for a month, there was nobody there at the designated check-in time and a few of us were waiting to do so. We waited and roamed around for an hour or so until we saw someone close by. No big deal - I understand they had a very busy summer, and I realize why! It's a great place to stay.

B&B da Nataliya

Outstanding B&B in a stunning location

Reviewed By Melanie R

I can't rate B&B Natalia highly enough! It is simply exceptional in its rooms, location and friendly, helpful owners. We arrived late at night because we had been delayed through a GPS mishap. (Long story). We were at the end of our tether after a long stressful day - I had a migraine and my partner had sprained his ankle. However the owner was incredibly welcoming and accomodating, even calling her son to help us with the bags at the late hour. That was service over and above the call of duty, and very, very much appreciated. We stayed in a beautiful old stone house/cottage located in a quiet courtyard that has all the charm you could want in a little mountain town. Beautifully renovated inside, it has a lovely fully functional kitchen downstairs and incredibly comfortable beds upstairs. I believe they have several other cottages in the courtyard as part of the B&B. I was very impressed by all the little touches and attention to detail with the room's facilities and items provided that took the venue from comfortable to exceptionally comfortable. The breakfasts were very generous with a range of delicious foods laid out in the main building's charming kitchen. Despite out very limited to non-existent Italian skills and the owner not speaking much English, we managed to communicate quite well, and felt warmly welcomed . They were quite exited that we were their first Aussie guests. I would definitely stay here again?

Affittacamere Acca Lascio

Our rooms are restored in two old buildings in the center of the village. The location is quiet and reachable only by foot. The medieval town of Calascio placed at 1200m on the southern coast of Gran Sasso mountains has remained intact over time. The proximity of Rocca Calascio, Campo Imperatore, Corno Grande make our facility a departure point for winter and summer activities. Special care is given to breakfast for mountain and international customers.

Wonderful B&B in a sleepy little Hilltown in Abruzzo

Reviewed By Nando T

We stayed at this B&B during a trip to Rocca Calascio and surrounding area. When we booked Lorenzo gave us his contact info and when we arrived at the town he was easy to get a hold of. He met us at the car park area and walked us to our room. The room comfortably accommodated 3 adults in single beds. Room was clean and warm with central heating, private bath with shower. The rustic fireplace was a nice added bonus. Breakfast was abundant with fresh local products. Lorenzo was very friendly and offered a lot of information about the area. Definitely will stay there again when in the area.

Unmissable

Reviewed By guorlan

The dry mountainsides of Abruzzo may seem a bit intimidating at first, but the quaint villages will soon make things better, with their cobbled streets, ancient archways and stone houses, sleepy cats and friendly inhabitants. Palazzo Diamante offers for a very reasonable price the unique experience of living in a wealthy family's Palazzo, where the rooms have comfy beds and vaulted and frescoed ceilings, the morning room serving a delectable and surprisingly generous breakfast is straight out of The Leopard and the unhurried and efficient staff will put themselves out to make your stay memorable. Only four rooms at present, but more are being renovated, and you can eat at the nearby Carla's restaurant run by the same family where you can savour homemade pasta, excellent arrosticini (tiny souvlakis of grilled sheep's meat) and tasty desserts, washed down with a surprisingly good house red. Definitely the place to stay.
