We offer oceanfront rooms with either one king or two queen beds. We also offer two bedroom suites, complete with full kitchens. These units are complete with linens and dishes. All units have access to free Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs and air conditioning. Whether you are coming to Cape Hatteras to surf or kite board, windsurf or fish, or maybe to just walk our miles of National Seashore beaches; the Cape Hatteras Motel is the place to stay.
I try to stay here on my way back to Virginia for 2 or 3 nights after visiting my father in Florida. I have stayed here 3 times since March 2021, and each stay has been remarkable. On my first visit, Will provided me with a list of places to eat that I have frequented on subsequent visits. I will be back.

Hatteras Island Inn is on the ocean side of Hatteras Island in the village of Buxton North Carolina. The beach is just a short walk away using the beach access. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is just two miles from the Inn and can be plainly seen from our observation tower as well as incredible sunrises and sunsets. Horseback riding, Go-Carts, Bumper Cars, Mini-Golf, Museums, Charter Cruises/Fishing trips, Gift Shops, and Great Dining are just some of the pleasures you can experience during your stay with us. Don't forget to take some time-out and relax at our pool while you are with us!
We made the reservation last minute based on what we saw on-line. We also didn’t know there was a storm on the way and they could have told us we could be stuck on the island is we booked there. Disadvantage of being out of town. The room was awful, wasn’t close to the pictures on-line and we were worried about getting trapped on the island so we left without spending the night. We both felt ripped-off by this hotel. My pictured are of the actual room. We felt like they took advantage of us as we were from out of town. It looks like we would have been stuck there for a few days if we stayed. I would hesitate to stay in this area unless you have a clear window on weather and avoid this hotel.

This is not a nice place and the pictures don’t show you what you get. To top it off, the staff called to verify our arrival and said nothing about the storm or the chance of being stuck on the island. We arrived and left, a good thing or we would have been stuck in this terrible room for a few days. Perhaps the owners see this as a wa to keep the rooms full. We took some pictures so you can get an accurate representation of the room. Notice the lamp, the worn out bedding and the missing pieces of blinds on our “oceanside room” (Don’t expect a view with an oceanside room). If you decide to stay in This area check the weather - we are from another state and didn’t think to, the hotel didn’t say anything until we arrived. We also suggest another hotel, stay clear of this one.

What a view of the Atlantic, especially from the 3rd floor of our cottage balcony. After a severe storm the week prior, the weather cooperated for the full week we were there. Sand was everywhere but the inside was as clean as could be. Wonderfully kept up with good central a/c, nice kitchen, and HD TV with many channels. A few minor negatives were a bathroom door with a hole in it (on their repair list) and door knobs that were hard to work, and due for replacement on both doors that lead out to the balconies. The bottom one broke completely at the end of our stay and was reported to the front staff. Some of the double paned glass windows have the seal broken which blurs the views. We realize this would be an expensive repair. Getting new towels, etc.. was quite easy. The pool area was top notch, just ultra cold water when we visited in late May. The hose in the garage area was extremely helpful to get the salt off our car each day. Almost everything has been thought of and thus our 5 star rating. There are restaurants in the area and even one really good one (Diamond Shoals) within walking distance. The Cape Hatteras lighthouse is just down the street and the Orange Blossom bakery a very short ride away. The ferry to Ocracoke is also an easy drive. A wonderful week to celebrate our 45th anniversary. We'll hopefully be back one day.

A 1960's Motel brought back to life right in the heart of the Outer Banks. The Swell sits across the road from a breathtaking beach & features a boat ramp to the Pamlico sound, perfect for small watercraft launching. Located a mile or less from the Hatteras Lighthouse, The Haulover for kite & wind surfing, The Point for world class fishing & surfing, art galleries, shopping, restaurants, & more.
Got off the last ferry to the island after dark. Pulled into the parking lot at the ferry and started calling pet friendly motels. This was the first one we called and they had a room. Cute old school motel. The owner checked us in and was extremely friendly. Very clean room with fridge, micro & full size coffee maker. Would definitely stay again.

We have been traveling to the outer banks since the early nineties and in the last few years, have been staying in the Hatteras area as we love the ability to drive and park right on the beach. Cape Pines is a wonderful little mom and pop gem tucked right in the center of Buxton, near a local grocer and restaurants. We've always stayed in the pet friendly courtyard rooms, which are all nicely appointed with various bedding options. All have at a minimum small fridges and coffee makers and come with front and back windows and outdoor clothes lines on each room's front porch. There are grills available for cooking as well as plenty of picnic tables, spread throughout the property. The pool has beautiful landscaping around it along with plenty of lounging and seating options. Most importantly, the service is EXCEPTIONAL. We are always warmly greeted when we arrive for our " next stay" and if we are arriving late, the owner calls us to ensure our trip down is going smoothly and advises about how to obtain our keys after hours. Often times, we book the same room and as always, at a very reasonable cost. If we are fortunate enough, we see familiar visitors that have traveled and stayed there before too. So nice to be able to feel at home. Whether it's for a "pre-game" stay ahead of your week in the Hatteras area, or for a long weekend, we cannot recommend Cape Pines highly enough!!
