This is the todayâs Strandzhata Tavern - it keeps the spirit alive and the hearts - warm. Exactly like the tavern of the great flag bearer - this legendary heroic character of the everlasting short novel "Nemili-Nedragiâ (âChased away, Unneededâ). A place
This is a nicely located small modern restaurant on the edge of the Danube. Young staff offered pleasant and attentive service. Decent lamb chops, salads, pork/bacon dish, dessert. A veal tongue starter was not good while a calamari dish had an odd sweet sauce. Probably best to stick to the tried and true side of the menu: this is one of the better places in Ruse.
... both locally and in comparison with the mehanas in other Bulgarian cities.Everything is just right here: a very appealing and spacious ambience;a perfect service, friendly, quick, attentive and very helpful and knowledgeable in the choice of food;on the menu a very wide range of delicacies from Bulgarian cuisine (including rarities);well-chilled, Bulgarian draft beer (Zagorka);excellent Bulgarian and Macedonian music - live from 20:30, previously from the cask. The whole thing at moderate prices. Conclusion: a very successful evening.
Really great atmosphere, the outdoor place is hidden from the streets so very calm and nice. Food is great, staff is very kind.

A little kitschy maybe, but cute and great fun. The food is excellent, served in hugh proportions. The wait staff is friendly and helpful, the menu extensive. If you want a meal in a traditional mehana atmosphere, this is the place to go.

Overall, I was pretty happy with my experience here. Although it was a Friday night, the place was fairly empty at 7pm. I had even called to book a table, which I then realised was clearly not necessary. I liked the arty and slightly hipster décor, and it was definitely cosy and welcoming. The menu is quite comprehensive with a good selection of salads and mains. In the end I went for one of the house salads and the trout. The latter was served with possibly the best roasted potatoes I have ever eaten. I can't put my finger on it, but I think it was the combination of salt and dill that made them truly delicious. The fish was also quite nice. I also ordered two glasses of Traminer.Service was average, I guess. On the friendly side, for sure, but definitely still very Bulgarian. They have free Wi-Fi (ask for the password) and play decent pop/commercial music.
