West End Restaurant

This place is a throwback to the Chinese restaurants we visited in BC when I was a teenager: a long row of maroon leatherette benches arranged as booths and chow mein, chop suey and egg foo yong on the menu. But there was other stuff too. We had excellent lemon chicken and a prawn stir fry, and when I asked for more vegetables, the kitchen made me a good mushroom, green pepper, baby corn and broccoli stir fry. And the price was reasonably too. And in Prince Rupert, where nearly everything closes early, this place stays open until 10pm.

Really a 3+. I had wonton chop suey soup that was recommended by a local. It had excellent broth and plump wontons. Lots of veggies and chicken, pork and shrimp. Full bodied. Clean place that does a huge local and take out business. I’d go back.

They have changed owners and name. We had stemmed mussels to start and they were to die for. The steaks were perfect. The place needs some renovating but clean and as they are new hopefully will come in time. Place was full and we can see why. Best meal we had during our stay.

Good Fast Food can be counted on here! They have a very tasty variety: chinese; seafood; Canadian. I love their seafood chowder!!! The calammari and tsatsiki sauce is wonderful! Good food at reasonable prices. No 1 Fast Foods is also popular for it's catering services!!!

I used to come here with family all the time in the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s because, back then, the food was good and had flavour! We recently visited Galaxy Gardens again (April 2016) and, I have to say, the quality has gone way down hill. The chow mien was bland/boring with little flavour; the eggroll was, to steal another reviewers words, "lifeless" and the won ton soup was without any significant flavour. I ordered the scallops and gai-lan, but the dish should more properly be called "gai-lan and scallops" because I had a whopping four small scallops in the plate and a mountain of gai-lan. . .you get more scallops than that in an appetizer elsewhere. That said, it wasn't all bland or disappointing: the lettuce wraps were noteworthy. So, yes, the food is definitely nothing special anymore, but the premises are clean and the staff friendly. When we used to visit in the 80s-90s, the place was usually full, but in our recent visits we were often the only ones inside. I can see why. . .
